Fear of Confrontation?

Question:
Hi. I am afraid of confrontation. I want to overcome my fear because it controls me. I dont know how to do so, because I can't confront my fear, because that is what I am afraid of. When ever I am faced with confrontation, usually with a person who has more authority over me, I panic. My heart rate speeds up and I breath really heavily at first, and then just faster and faster. A bunch of thoughs that scare me race through my head and then I can either slow down and take deap breaths or I break out in tears, depending on how bad it was.
Don't tell me to "go to a doctor" I wont, because I cant tell anyone that they need to take me, because I am afraid of what they might say.
Its not a chronic problem either, the whole heart racing things only happen about once or twice a month, but I avoid confrontation, all the time.

Hey we all have to do it.just a simple way of reminding you we are all equal really.maybe a job gives someone the right to think they are superior..but whats a job when all said and done.they can get fired like anybody else.

Good luck!

Other Answers:
do the exact thing that you are afraid to do. afraid of confrentation? you confront all of your fears, regardless of what your mind is telling you to do. take control of your mind, and this phase will pass.

The fear of confrontation or conflict is rarely common for both men and women. Most are afraid that a confrontation or conflict can lead to physical fighting or even death. I honestly feel that the effects that you are experiencing don't have anything to do with the fear. It could possibly be that you have a small heart problem that only comes to your attention during those times. Being afraid of conflict or confrontation is not only normal, but in my opinion smart. Confrontation and conflict only leads to drama which can cause stress and other serious health conditions. Do avoid conflict and confrontation when possible. BUT HOWEVER.don't be a complete doormat..disrespect towards you should be acknowledged and confronted.
