aspergers syndrome & being open?

Question:
Just out of curiosity, do people with aspergers syndrome have a harder time in being open to others (as far as talking about relationship issues or issues about him/herself) and like to keep any secrets they have inside their head to themselves?

Answers:
Yes, many do. One of the biggest problems with AS sufferers is something common for all that have Autism, PDD (pervasive developmental disorders). PDD makes it difficult for them to understand, relate, and express what they want to say to others.

However, some are able to get aside their own problems as best as they can and are able to voice issues they see themselves as having to others. However, it's human nature to keep things so personal to one's self.
Speaking to a person in real life would be much harder than writing something down or, such as this, communicating online.

interesting question.

one of my kids has it..and seems pretty open. difficulty seems to be more with social interaction in conversations than explaining feelings though..

interesting though..i am gonna think a little on this..

I'm very convinced that I have it, even though I've never been diagnosed. But I've found that I can be a bit *too* open on some things, and not open enough on others. The challenge is to know what's appropriate to say in the context of the situation.

But if it's a relationship with someone who really cares about you (friend, relative, gf/bf, etc.), then don't be afraid to discuss your uncertainty about what to discuss! Maybe ask, "Would you like me to talk/not talk about this?" "What do you want to know from me?" "Do you feel that I'm open enough with you?" That kind of thing. If it's someone who truly cares about you, then they should be glad to talk about things like this with you.

Good luck!
