How can you tell if you have a mental illness such as depression.??.

Question:
How do I know if someone I love or myself has a mental illness, or just need a change of life in general? How do you know you're always depressed because you have someone in your life bringing you down..or if it's just you bringing others down due to your own illnesses to the point where they stop liking you because you're irratable, demanding, moody ect. I'm saying this generally because I know people like this and I am starting to wonder if I can be a bit manic with my blow outs and then I quickly snap out of it and apologize my heart out and feel so bad and get depressed over it. Then later I am giving to everyone, and can control myself when people like at work give me a hard time.I can be nice no matter what. I feel almost two faced.and some of my friends are seeming short as well. How can you decide if it's bad relationships or just perhaps a long lived illness??

Answers:
You can't tell on your own unfortunately. If it's becoming a problem then talk to your doctor so both of you can figure out exactly what's going on. If you think something's not right, chances are you're right! So do something about it so you don't have to keep wondering if it's you or everybody around you.
