Do you hear your name called or noises just before falling asleep?

Question:
Right before I fall asleep lately I hear my name being called in a voice I don't recognize (and it's not always the same voice) or noises like glass shattering, laughing, etc. Has anyone else experienced this? What causes this? Should I be concerned? It doesn't happen any other time than right before I fall asleep. Thanks.

Answers:
Hypnogogic and hypnopompic hallucinations are false perceptions that occur while falling asleep or immediately upon awakening. They are completely normal so don't worry. I occasionally hear voices or feel something touch me while I am dozing off and a few times I've woke up, opened my eyes and seen a person or animal or a face on the wall. People with serious mental illnesses or brain disorders have persistent hallucinations when wide awake and in a clear state of consciousness.

You could be skitzo! Although they usually hear the voices during the day also. It could be your roomates playing tricks on you.

I haven't had this happen to me. It sounds like you might be stressed out about something and can't "relax" before going to sleep. are you already half asleep? Do u hear these noise inside your head or do they seem to be coming from a source outside your mind.. i.e. in another room, from across the room etc.?

woah i get the same thing but i also see weird stuff all times of the day when i close my eyes. i think we just have an active imagination

Hypnagogic hallucinations, solves your problem.

me i hear my name being called but it is always the same voice it is my friend hunter i also hear noises but soothing noises like the ocean or the piano i don't know if we should be concerned? Sometimes before I fall asleep I hear noises such as voices whispering and such. Then I juts sit up in bed for a little and try and finetune my hearing to find out it's just the sound of water running (pipes, drain, etc.) or the high pitch noise from electronics in the house. It's really wierd, but Im right there with you hehe. It scares the crap outta me sometimes. You just gotta remember that your brain never actually gets tired or falls asleep :)

I have heard my name whispered several times.

oh, i guess your just being paranoid, are you being stress out lately? cause if you, all you need is relax and clear your mind. but if that persist for a quite sometime, i guess its better to visit your doctor

This may sound completely foreign to you, but yes it has happened to me, and the explaination is: the Astral Plane.

This is where our spirits go when we are dreaming, and the sounds you are hearing could be coming from there as you are spiritually drifting away.

The voices calling your name could be your spirit guides.

Hallucinations? Possibly. As we drift off, perhaps our minds are more suseptable to them.

Look up Astral Plane though, it may give you some insight.

I have this to all the time.but I am stressed out all the time too so i blame it on stress, but it is kinda creepy though. I definately do not think you are crazy.
