How soon after giving birth can post partum depression occur?

Question:
and what are

women usually depressed about? Their cute little babies? I don't really understand PPD

Answers:
There is a hormonal shift about three days after the birth of the baby which causes the normal "baby blues" which usually lasts for only a few days to a week. Where it goes from there may have to do with current psychological factors such as attachment to other young children (where that close bond is being interrupted), the support of the husband/family, the later developmental separation of the growing infant, and definitely has to do with the mother's strengths and weaknesses from her own childhood relationship with her own mother. A very complex matter with the interplay of these factors and many others in multiple mixtures in each individual case. The post partum depression can range anywhere from simple depression to psychosis. I had a close friend whose wife became psychotic and killed herself and her two children (3 months and 2 years old)—he was under suspicion of murder for several months.
Post partum depression can occur during your pregnacy, and there is no set itme for it to began and or end. I have 5 children. I pray that you are not expericening post partum. If so please find some one you can talk to. You can talk to me if you like.
