How many of you are on anti-depressants?? are they working??

Question:
what kind and how long have you been on them? are there really sexual (killing sex drive)side effects??

Answers:
I have been on all kinds of antidepressants! If you don't have to them please don't take them. Last I was one lexapro, its worked great I was on cloud nine but it made my memory bad and I had NO sex drive whatsoever! It has horrible and very hard on my relationship. Then my doctor put me on welbutrin, I like it much better, I havent had any sexual side effects and I still think it works...sometimes, plus if you are trying to quit smoking it works great for that too! I didn't plan on quitting but I have lost my desire to smoke. In addition to all of that I have ativan for anxiety which works good for me. You just have to remember EVERY person is different so if you are going to be on them you may have to go through quite a few before you find the right one that can work for you. BUT like I said if you absolutely don't need it then don't do it! Its hard to get off of them once you start, I'm 21 now and actually happy about my meds, but I dont know weather I will be on them the rest of my life or not. Just think about it.

Other Answers:
No way of knowing
I was on Wellbutrin for quite some time and they worked well with no side-effects.
Sorry, I'm not, but I did just see a commercial about a new medicine which is supposed to help people who are still feeling depressed even though they're taking anti-depressants.
I've been taking EffexorXR for 2.5 years. Works great. Infact, probably saved my life. Getting off of them is really hard, so ask about that before you start taking one. I have had no sexual side effects.
Prozac 40mg.

Not affecting sex life and help along with circumstances getting better.

Don't think about suicide as much.
im not on it
Zoloft.
Yes, takes significantly longer to reach orgasm/ejaculation.
Makes it easy to satisfy the ladies though. They love it.
I am on wellbutrin, but I have only been on it for a week, but I have taken it before (it helps kick the smoking habit). I didn't notice any side effects.
Yup they work...the only downfall is yes...it kinda kills the sex drive(to most) but it's up to you whether you want to sacrifice your mental heath for some bootie action.

I'm on prozac....it DEFINITELY helped me.
why do u need them? anti-depressants are for sissys who can't deal with their problems..
or do u prefer everyone take b/c u know everyone has problems
Yes they work. No, they don't kill my sex drive. They do make it rather difficult to...finish up. But I don't let it stop me. Took Prozac for years, now on Lexapro. Been on them for 8 years. Should have done it sooner. Better to take the meds than to be miserable.
Yes I am on them. Zoloft- if they are working or not- depends on what day of the week you ask me. I have no one to have sex with right now, so I wouldn't say they are killing my drive. I am horney as hell!
I'm not. I know someone who is. Taking Lexapro and it is working, everyone sees the difference. There is a sexual side effect of delayed ejaculation (which may or may not be a bad thing) (male)
I have taken lexapro, zoloft and paxil and all three made me feel like CRAP, even after taking them for a while. Physically ill and feelings of dread. Now I take nothing and feel even better, but that's just me.
I've been taking Wellbutrin for a little over a year now. I can't imagine being with out it. The only side effects I have are dry mouth and INCREASED sex drive.
I am, and no not really working. No side effects on my end but I have heard from others that they do have a neg. effect on drive.
I have been taking Zoloft for 1 year now. I feel great :) I have no side effects and I don't care If I have to take them for the rest of my life - I have such a better quality of life now.
I am on Paxil and it's really working. I also take Depakote so that helps too. I think it sorta killed my sex drive, which I can work on, but to not be scared of stupid stuff all the time makes it alright! I just hate being afaid. It scares me sooooo much! Wow!! Ok, one should not drink and go on YA....sorry...
I have terrible, terrible PMS, and I have to take two antidepressants to keep it under control. Otherwise, for about ten days a month I am a screaming, crying, hysterical wreck. I take Zoloft and Wellbutrin. I've been on the Zoloft for two years I think and the Wellbutrin for one. I don't have any side effects at all, including loss of sex drive. Wellbutrin is thought to have the least amount of side effects when it comes to sex drive. I don't know about Zoloft. I hate taking them, but I hate being miserable and hysterical too. It's a trade-off, and I owe it to my family to take care of myself. Good luck.
I was on paxil (anti depressant) and zyprexa (antipsychotic), and yes they deadened my sex drive a little. But after about 6 months, I adjusted and my boyfriend just had to try a little harder to make me feel good, that's all.
I also felt kind of detached; not crazy or anything, just like I didn't really have a care in the world. In some ways, it's a good feeling to be so carefree. For the most part I would say the meds really helped me a lot. The worst part is getting on (you feel kind of weird), and getting off (you feel really dizzy and your brain makes a sort of popping sound).
I take Paxil and it has made a HUGE difference. Sometimes I get busy and forget to take it, and I can tell. It doesn't make my problems go away, but it helps keep me buoyed up so I can deal with them rationally.

Sex Drive...I'm single and happy that way. I don't need a sex drive. ;-)

I have been taking Paxil for about 7 years.
ianm on fludac it is working every two years i get depression for one month and my doctor prescribeds fludac 20mg

my doctor says iam not ill but if i lose jobi get depressed so he sdvised me to continue in n some job or other ans sewitch to new job after getting one and not before getting new job
Yes I have tried different ones. I am currently on Lamictol--a mood stabilizer and a nerve pill/ I found that Effexor helped me when I was really tripping out but when I took it again a few years later, it did nothing at all to help me. Then I was on and off Depakote for a number of years. It causes weight gain and increased sexual side effects. =--not decreased sex drive lol.
ok the well butrin did nothing for me. That was like taking an aspirin lol. I then took Lexapro and that worked pretty well. I decided to get off the Depakote and I did have withdrawals. But using Depokate with Lexapro and the nerve pill, my sex drive was decreased and I could care less about it. Now I am on those two ones I mentioned earlier. They are not suppose to have any sexual side effects and you do not have to have those routine blood tests or worry about kidney or liver damage. So you really have to see for yourself which works best for you. You will know after a couple of months. Gosh this is embarrassing to talk about. lol
I take Effexor, I have been on it for 2 years and was on Prozac for several years previously. Effexor has worked really well for me, I have had few, if any side effects. HTH.
Hello! I'm currently on Effexor, and have been for 4 years. I have had no side effects with the Effexor. It's really helped a lot. Previous to that, I was on many of the anti-depressants listed here. I had very serious withdrawl symptoms from Paxil when I went off of it. I think you should be careful of the withdrawl symptoms as well.
I'm on Lexapro 20 mgs...they just upped my dosage about a week ago. I was on 10 mgs for about a month and a half. And I'll put it like this. Birth control had my sex drive on life support and Lexapro pulled the plug. Quite sad. but now I'm taking Klonopin to help with my anxiety and its revived it some. But yeah for the most part the Lexapro helps my depression but I still have some bad days. doesn't do much for the anxiety though.
I do take a few antidepressants, They take awhie to work then you get to a point where you are so used to them they quit working.
As for my sex drive it has not been afected.
I have been on alot of different anti-depressants. The main one that affected my sex drive was Paxil.

What do you mean by working? Am I happy once in a while, whereas before was never. I judge it works when I am stable able to resist harmful thoughts.

I have had to try many different ones/combos before I finally found something that I have been stable on for any length of time. I have been on the current regimine of Lexapro (5mg), Trileptal (450 mg), and Seroquel (200mg) for almost 2 years.

I tried :
Klonipin
Geodon
Risperidol
Wellbutrin
Amitryptiline
Prozac - was like taking water,
Paxil - worked well for quite a while, came of because of sexual side affect,
Serzone
Topomax
Zyprexa - gained toooo much weight (I have several medical conditions and can not afford extra pounds)

Some did nothing while others either worked a little or had unbearable side effects.
