Going off Paxil?

Question:
I've been on Paxil for about 8 years. Wow, I cant believe its been that long. I forgot to take my meds with me on a weekend getaway and when I came home I forgot to refill. Since I hadnt taken it in about a week at that point, I decided to stay off it. I know thats not a good idea, but I seem to be OK. I am going into my 3rd week. I feel weird today, but it might be because I am tired. Hope this strange feeling goes away. Feels like Im a little buzzed as if I drank alcohol. Well, anyone know if this will get worse? Better? When?

Answers:
Usually the abrupt cessation of SSRI therapy will result in very intense flu-like symptoms, with headache, fever, chills, etc. If you've been off for three weeks and you haven't experienced anything like that then you may just be lucky. Regardless, I would call your prescribing physician and schedule an appointment to weigh the risks versus the benefits of your discontinuation of therapy.

It's definately not a good idea to just stop taking paxil. Call the doctore that prescribed them to you and tell him/her what happened and what is going on with you now. Good luck
It may take some weeks to feel "normal" again, this is not a wise thing to be doing without a doctor's oversight. After a few weeks you can expect things to "settle out" and then you will start feeling the way you did that encouraged you to seek help in the first place!

Hope it all works out!
In all actuallity you should not have just kinda gone "cold turkey" off the Paxil. Most doctors will decrease the dosage gradually until they feel you can quit taking it. As for the funny feeling, you should consult your physician.
This is what yahoo health said.
Do not stop taking the medication without first talking to your doctor. It may take 4 weeks or more for you to start feeling better and you may have unpleasant side effects if you stop taking paroxetine suddenly
Def. talk to ya doc.
i went cold turkey off paxil and had a hell of a time.
my gut feeling is that if you have not had any real symptoms up til now, you probably wont. A fair percentage of the population does not have the withdrawal problem with the drug. It all has to do with whether or not you produce enough of two particular liver enzymes.

Fish oil and Magnesium help a lot of people. Also check out http://www.theroadback.org
they have some stuff that might really help you out!!
