What can you do for a person with obsessive compulsive disorder?

Question:
A friend of mine, each time he goes home, spends half an hour parking his car and checking his car doors at least fifty times. After talking to him to a few times about it, he still continues doing it. Why is he like this? How can I help?

Answers:
believe it or not, there are more and more people like that nowadays. It's just a form of OCD, and if he isn't bothering anyone, just let it be. If it gets to much for him, and he can't handle it, then they do have medication for it, but if he doesn't mind that he is like that, then just let him do it. He's not harming anyone.

Other Answers:
Just be there for him. I suffer from the same thing but thankfully mine is controlled by medication. Just remember he can't help it.

take him to an OCD therapist in your area; they will figure out the best kind of treatment for him; before that go to www.ocdfoundation.org and www.ocdonline.com for support and information you need help if you keep counting it and watching the behavior.

if he is not distressed by it then there is nothing to be done.
if he is distressed by it then he is ready for help
if he is insured call the physician referral hotline at the nearest hospital for a psychiatrist
if he is not he should contact the local university and ask to see someone in the psych clinic

if you cant stop counting
and measuring the length of time it takes for him to carry out his routine.
you should call as well

Therapy. The habitually best treatment is cognitive-behaviour therapy with a big temporary dose of a drug call "Paxil". Paxil 60 mg (it's the habitually maximum dose) is very good for obsessive compulsive disorder

Leave him be. It sounds like the behavior isn't effecting his everyday life and he is a functioning adult. Key word here being adult. Keep your eye on him. If he seems irritated by his behaviors or it starts to effect his everyday life and ability to go to work or participate in his social circle get him some help.

I don`t know but if you people find out,let me know I have the same problem,I wear my self out counting and just different OCD things.
