Question:
i was told when i was at school that i had dyspraxia! as a result i was given extra time in my gcse's. i was never given a formal diagnoses and i was wondering how i would go about getting one in adult hood and how it affects you?

Answers:
Hi, My Son was diagnosed with dyspraxia many years ago now along with some other more serious disorders. Firstly you need to see if you have any of the symptoms as with the right care and support it is something some people can overcome. Dyspraxia is primarily a problem with co-ordination and balance. My some was forever falling over and always banging his head. He found it difficult to use cutlery to eat, doing up buttons and shoe laces was a nightmare and as for throwing and catching a ball ..... he just couldn't do it. So everyday i did several different exercises with him until he finally managed to overcome it. If you were diagnosed with the mild form and given extra time for your exams i am guessing you had problems with legible handwriting etc??? Do a few things like throwing and catching a ball, doing up and undoing buttons ( see how long it takes you ) Writing a paragraph, Managing with a knife and fork. If the things are a little tricky then pop back to your GP, he will refer you for testing and you will get some support. Best of luck.
Go to your G.P and you could get referred to a specialist
Dyspraxia is a defect in coordination/balance my nephew has it and he was diagnosed by the schools medical practitioner
