Can a person have OCD without the compulsions?

Question:
I believe this is possible, because that's what I have. What you obsess about does not necessarily have to end in an action (i.e. check the oven is off due to obsessing about burning down the house). Sometimes, as in my case, you obsess about things that can't be acted on--like past mistakes. But the compulsive part may come out in the very minor obsessions (worries, really), like preoccupation that you didn't lock your car, so you have to go check no matter what.
You probably wouldn't lose sleep over not locking your car like you would the intense obsessive thoughts but these worries are concerns that nag you that you act on.
My point is that the Os and the Cs in OCD don't necessarily have to be cause and effect, the Cs aren't always acting on the Os, so to speak. Isn't it possible to have the presense of mind to stop the compulsions while still being plauged by obsessive thoughts?

Answers:
Its possible to just be pure obssessional ...check out this first link!!
there is an ocd screening on the second link
and on the third a list of ocd symptoms.
If any of this sounds like you, make an appt. OCD is treatable with medication and therapy.
Good luck.

Have you officially been diagnosed with OCD? If so, your doctor can answer these questions; if not, you need to see a doctor. I can tell by your letter that you do tend to obsess over small things and need to ask over and over. Please check with someone. Good Luck!
Makes sense to me....that would go along way to explaining some of my behaviors. Although I have no expertise, I do self-medicate dealing with the same symptoms you suggest...
Please see a doctor. There are treatment options now for people with OCD.

Also try this (but NOT instead of a doctor!)

YES!
I have both obessions and compulsions, but I obsess over things like serial killers, fire, rape (I know this sounds terrible) but I don't do things like barricade myself into my room or practice leaving the house for a fire drill.
But my compulsions on germs and neatness cause me to wash my hands a million times a day and I am constantly organizing, reorganizing and worrying about it.
So, the answer is YES!
