A person who is mentally ill many times has a false sense of security. It is elevated higher along with many other symptoms that falls into mental illness. Excessive talking is just one. Depends on the illness as well. A person who you say is just an egghead, well you wouldn't know for sure but probably suffers from being shy. Not social advanced. But could also suffer from a form of mental illness that you just can't recognize. There are so many different types of mental illness, I can bet you would never know many that suffer from it.

Mentally ill people sometimes don't talk at all. I have worked in a hospital setting with patients who say nothing for a week, but lie in bed with a blanket over their head, refusing food, etc. In fact, certain types of schizophrenia lead people to be extremely socially withdrawn.

With Asperger's Syndrome (sometimes the cause behind being an "egghead,") social withdrawal is also very common. This is mostly because data and information is easily absorbed (left brain process) but social information that is non-verbal (right brained) is difficult or impossible to comprehend.

Asperger's Syndrome is NOT a mental illness, but a neurological DIFFERENCE. Many people with AS are very wise. Some hardly speak and some speak a lot about the topics they know much about.

Sometimes, not speaking is a sign of great intelligence and wisdom, while in other situations, it is a sign of illness or neurological difference.

Wisdom requires few words.

i believe your mistaken, go to the mental health dept an tale to them about getting information that is correct and not someone's false impressions then make your judgement
