Hallucinations or what?

Question:
I was asleep on the couch last night and as my husband walked through the room I saw on the wall in the shadows what looked like a smaller person walking. I knew it wasn't real but I blinked a couple times and it was still there and that scared me and I blinked again and it went away. Sometimes if I'm driving at night and I'm really tired something will be in the road and I'll think it's a cat or a dog then as I get closer I realize it's not really moving. Is this just being tired . . .(normal) or is this something that I should worry about?

Answers:
Hallucination is when you insist you see something and other people don't see this. You are not hallucinating, as you are aware of this. Stress ... that's all. And it is an easier diagnosis :)

Other Answers:
A lot of people have hallucinations, so I wouldn't start to worry about it.
If it gets worse and you believe it's not normal, then go check with your doctor.
it happens to all the people all the time. some are brave to accept it and some are hesitant.
What did you eat, drink, smoke or pill did you swallow before you saw these things? Any of these factors could cause hallucinations. So can stress. Or maybe they weren't hallucinations at all. Perhaps some other worldly being (and I'm not trying to be funny) Paranormal pyschology could provide an answer if you believe in that sort of thing. Of simply a medical doctor if you are that worried about it.
Perhaps you have floaters or vitreous bodies that will go to another location when you blink. Usually these are small and there may be two or three. If they are large and bothersome see an opthalmologist.
Hallucinations are optical illusions which are basically non-existant or imaginary making you believe that something is there and wasn't there present around you! For example, you might able to see dozens of pink elephants hovering all over your head and a purple giraffe with red, blue, and green polka-dots, and even a two-headed chimpanzee riding a flying motorcycle. Think of it, they're all just hallucinatory images that might appear in front of you in your own mind and in your very imagination.
I wold think you should see an opthamologist, I was having a similar problem with my eyes play tricks on me like that and it turned out to be that I needed glasses(or if you wear them already then a new prescription). I know especially for me when I am driving at night I tend to "see" things out of the ordinary and these are not hallucinations but my eyes are playing tricks on me cause once I had my glasses all of these tricks abruptly stopped.

I also suffer from psychotic episodes from bipolar disorder and do sometimes have hallucnations and the big difference I see is that when I hallucinate I see outlandish things like a certain mafia man with a gun pointed at me or a herd of purple dragons chasing after me, things that usually do not make a bit of reasonable sense. I would think that what you describe sounds more like you need to have your eyes checked.

Hope this helps!
