what is the porbose of using st. jhons wort ?

i used to take this midicine for a year now twice a day. know that i have epilepsy since i was child. but casue of the midicine which i used to take for curing epilepsy there is a lot of side effect that really beat me. so one of my friend suggest me this herbal !
