My sister has OCD (obsessive disorder) and will not seek help?

Question:
She's driving me crazy with this disorder she has.She knows she has it and will not get help. She's getting worst. When I say something to her about it. She said it does not bother her. That she don't care. But when she visits me at my home or azt her home she drives me crazy with this obsessive behaver of hers. Even when we go some place together. She does stupid things while I'm driving. I've come cose to having accidents because of her. There is not enough room on here to list all the stupid things she does. How can I help her to get help?

Answers:
If she is an adult, she is going to have to WANT to get help for herself. You cannot force her to seek help unless she is a danger to herself or others.

If she is a real danger, you can have her committed to a nuthouse and 'help' will be forced on her. If you love her, I wouldn't suggest this option. She would hate you forever, as those places are horrible.

Be patient and supportive and pray. She'll come around and eventually realize she needs help to overcome her OCD.

Let her pay attansion to the more interesting things. Unless she is a threat to herself or to someone else there isn't much you can do.

If she is a threat to herself or others, then it only takes two signatures..usually done in the sheriffs office..to have her put into the hospital. Psych hospitals are not as bad as some would have you believe. There she will be completely medically evaluated, as well as psychologically evaluated.

There are some very good medicines available today for ocd. Even a family practitioner could help by writing her a prescription. I would try to talk her into seeing one.

If anyone is truly in danger, though, you need to act immediately. If you don't feel competent to handle the situation, then call a social worker or a psychologist.
