Drug and alcohol abuse can cause violence towards ones child. Or previous abuse themselves. You could get this information a lot quicker doing a web search in a psychiatric journal. :)

Power trip. It is easy to dominate someone who can not defend themselves. Child abuse ranks in my top 5 of unspeakable acts.

People who abuse their children were usually abused themselves. Stress, or the children doing something that they themselves were abused for, can trigger the same response that THEY received from their parents. They can even do worse if they are under a lot of pressure. Same goes for sexual abuse. (Not always the parents, but often so).

The casue of child abuse is mothers and fathers wanting to be in control. Or that's the way they were brought up and they don't know any better.
