Is an occasional Guinness just as good as prescription drugs for anxiety?

Question:
I have recently been advised to take Cymbalta for depression/anxiety. I do not feel the slightest bit depressed, but occasionally I will feel anxious. In the past I would always just drink a Guiness or two to relax and be fine.

Answers:
I totally agree with you, dude! When my problems seem insurmountable and my world is falling down around me, two Guinness Extra Stouts give me a whole new perspective on things. My problems don't seem so big after all, and my overall attitude is uplifted. It's my firm belief that prescription drugs just screw you up even worse...

As long as it's just one or two, and not very often.
No! Meds & talk therapy is proven to be the best. Many people with depression or anxiety turn to drugs or alcohol, Don't do it.You can change meds until you find one that works. It can take from 4-8 wks. for the meds to work, & they may make yu feel funny but give it 8 wks. B4 you change.
Sorry but no. Alcohol is a depressent. Initially it will make you feel more relaxed, but only for a short period of time. In the long run, it robs you brain of it's natural feel good chemicals, making you even more depressed and/or anxious. Try exercise and eating right. That can be as effective or more so than pills. I take prozac and buspar...swallowing pills is much easier than exercising and living healthy:(
