what is the difference between lexapro and celexa?

Question:

Answers:
lexipro is the "L" isomer of celexa so to speak. It is the second drug that came out after celexa. It is the part of the drug that does the action. They found that there were 2 parts of the compound and only one had a therapeutic effect. By just using that part of the drug that works not as high a dose needs to be given and fewer side effects occur. You cannot compare the acutual doses because they are different compounds so that means 20 mg Lexipro is not equal to 20 mg Celexa. If you have a choice go with the Lexipro. You will be getting the active compound without other stuff that is not going to help you and will just create side effects. You can still get side effects from Lexipro, but at least you will get benefits from all of it and not have all that trash comming around adding to your side effects.

Try to think of it this way. Lexipro is a more purified form of Celexa.

I sure hope that makes sense. It is hard to explain.

Insurance companies are going to want to go with Celexa because it is out in generic and cheaper. Celexa is fine as long as you can tollerate the side effects. Lexipro can be more comfortable.
