What's the best way for my husband to build his self-esteem?

Question:
He's had a 'self-esteem facade' for most of his life, but it appears to be falling apart.

Answers:
Tell him that there are billions of men out there, but you were really lucky to marry him. Tell him that he makes you really happy and if that was not the case you would pack and leave him. Tell him that he has the power to be sucessful. You see handicaps that overcome their difficulties, immigrants that have to learn a new language, go to college and get a profession, and other people that start from scratch. When I see a person saying, "I am not good enough to do that." I answer, "Ok, if you say that, then you know what you are talking about. NOW I know because YOU told me." I start to treat them with less respect (I do it on purpose) and that makes them angry and they start to believe more in themselves.

He needs to read this webpage and study it with info from top psychologists and religion. Extremely powerful if he is willing to read it.

Is he depressed? Does he need counselling? Does he need to go to a doctor? How bad is this problem? Does he just need to let up on some stress and have some fun? If he needs help please help him get some. The falling appart does not seem good. Perhaps he needs to see a psychiatrist to rule out depression. That might be taken care of easily with medication and counselling. Then he might be able to work on issues better. I hope he is okay. Please get him checked out at least with his primary care doctor to make sure it is not a medical condition.
There is no way a man of fifties years can be led by his wife if he was a leader all his life. If he is a follower then don't worry he is still happy today. If he is going into depression it may be dementia or Alzheimer's. He is not likely to have false expectations of life at fifty years of age.Try a pet bird to cheer him or get him out on a fishing trip.
