You may say I’m depressed, I say I’m a realist, which am I?

Question:
Maybe reality just depresses me, should I be on medication if it is just making me not care?

Answers:
No, don't take any psychiatric drugs. Psychiatric drugs are highly addictive and dangerous. They just mask the real problem and have side effects that include a risk of suicide. Sometimes people even die from taking psychiatric drugs. Over 100,000 Americans have died from just one class of psychiatric drugs -- many others have been permanently paralyzed.

That said, your feelings could me symptoms of an underlying medical problem. A vitamin deficiency, hormone imbalance or lack of certain amino acids can lead to depression like feelings. If you're interested in getting checked out you should see a competent medical doctor (not a psychiatrist). You can find a good one here: http://www.alternativementalhealth.com It's run by an organization named Safe Harbor.

If you're interested in educating yourself further about psychiatry and the dangers of psychiatric drugs visit the Citizens Commission on Human Rights website: http://www.cchr.org

You are on medication, right now? Or did you feel this way before you began the doses?

You're not alone -- there are millions of very down-to-earth, straight-forward thinkers, I happen to be one of them. I have more dislikes than likes, and believe that ignorance is not bliss.

Much of the world is ignorant, so that makes bliss hard to come by, sometimes. =) If you have been diagnosed with depression, you need the medication. No "if"s or "but"s on that one.

If you're just worried that your personality is somehow 'wrong', -- DON'T worry! ^_^ Not everyone can be carefree. You may find that, once in awhile, people need a healthy, cynical persona in their lives.

Best of luck!
What a sad life you have.
definatley depressed
everything in life isn't bad. look at all the good.
depressed
you should sleep.....
take the meds you deserve to feel happy
You should get diagnosed by a professional who will properly delve into your problems. But asking people here will get you the wrong answers cause we know nothing more about you.
You are not depressed or a realist. You are just a psycho so have fun with life.
If the Meds are making you not care I would talk to your Dr. about it. Other then that I don't know you, some can't say much there.
The world can be a depressing place if you spend too long thinking about it. If you dont have any good times or look forward to to anything, then you are probably depressed.
i have the same problem..im a bit emo & occasionally hate life..& im too embarassed to go to my mom & be like can i have some uppers cause im down in the dumps...i just bare with it & people notice it sucksz.
Only you can answer that, but maybe you should talk to a therpist? or...go to www.mayoclinic.com and take their test on depression....gl and I hope you're better soon.
No, I'm the same way. I don't think i need medication

I have a theory on optimisim and why I find it wrong.

If I am optimistic about something and it never happens then I'm let down.
however, if I am pessimistic and it goes my way then I'm plesantly surprised. and happy.

Which is the better way to go?
Sometimes things can seem depressing.Watching the news and reading the paper sometimes increase this feeling. You might be a little depressed but its hard to say.Sometimes all you need is to look for the good in the world. Its hard but its out there.Sounds like you just might be a realist.Maybe write a book.It makes you think.Try it.
it's true, the world sucks. but just try to live despite it, or try to make a difference.

and no, as long as you're not hurting yourself, i don't think you should be medicated just because you can see that the world isn't perfect....
Depends on whether it is affecting your day to day life. Make it to work on time? Bills get paid? Tasks, even the most mundane, getting accomplished? Could be you're just too reflective on life. As long as you have no trouble navigating through life that way, don't worry about what others think. Everyone isn't going to be happy and those that are overly happy are usually overly medicated or in denial about reality.
girl, we all get these feelings, it may pass, it may not - OR this may just be your demeanor. Everyone is different and you should think about things that make you happy, and not focus on the depressing thought of reality because it just is. Just because something is depressing, doesn't mean you're depressed. You don't need meds, just some more life experience and a chance at happier times. You'll be fine...
if you've got problems with your serotonin, norepinephrine, or some other chemical imbalance then you might benefit from psychotropics of some kind. if you just tend to analyze the facts of a thing and come to various realistic (although depressing) conclusions, then it would seem that you're a realist. of course, if the negative conclusions begin to affect you to the point of depression, you may facilitate some kind of emotional problem.

this really did make sense when i started.
You read like an opinionated person. That doesn't make you a realist or a depressed person. It just means that when you open your mouth you say something critical. You could try looking on the bright side of life but that means doing something. A can do attitude implies will do and if you won't then it makes you a boastful person. So, either do something with what you are thinking are be ready to ask this question again and again.
I don't know all the details but maybe you are not depressed like you said and a realist or maybe just negative or cynical. But you did state reality depresses you. I suppose if you are content with your take on life and still live a full one, despite your negative view on the world, more power to you. If you find the world depressing and don't want to be a part of living then yeah your depressed. As far as the medication goes I think therapy would be better, it would get to the source of why you believe reality depresses you so much instead of taking medication to mask the problem. Meds are not a bad thing , temporarily, in combination with therapy i think works the best.
depression medication can get really addictive, so u have to be careful with it, but i'd say if ur not a happy person at all, u need to go on that medication because u only live once so enjoy your life.

"Take a pill!" Geese Louise! So many people are brainwashed by the pharmaceutical companies. You are probably a very sane, compassionate and intelligent person who does not try to escape the reality of the world we live in. Ignorance is bliss for the ignorant, they just cause so much pain for others. Life is a combination of rain and sun, the sad days are as OK as the happy days. Pain was the motivator for so many good things from art and poetry to people making a stand. It is sad that society makes pain out to be something for the "ill". It is a natural part of life. If you feel that means you are alive. Just remember reality contains pain and joy.
This may piss you off, but the truth sometimes will do that. (Sort of like mentioning to Christians that Bush is an idiot) With the exception of mental illness, being a realist is very depressing in this world. Look at all the rapes, murders, lies, self-centeredness, stealing, divorces, death, etc. etc. Very depressing indeed, unless you can humble yourself enough to give God a chance. Because when I became open-minded enough to accept that there might be a God, and humbled myself enough to admit that I'm not him, my very pessimistic yet realistic world view changed to that of 'peace in the valley'. Remember, you see what you want to see.
