Do ASPERGERS adults have problems with discipline?
Question:
Sometimes I can pick up new skills or knowledge (programming languages) when I procrastinate "deeply". But the problem means I make less money because it drags out how long it takes me to complete contract projects.
Any idea what I can do to stop the cycle? Or if other aspergers people have the same problem?
Answers:
I can relate. I have two teens with Aspergers and ADHD. I also have ADHD. Find a support group for Aspies in your area.

Go to www.candidpsychiatrist.com and read the article link down the left side "Laziness by any other Name" While I am not saying this is your problem, it's something for self reflection. What you describe yourself doing is what I do to, but I don't have Asperger's. I just have trouble doing anything that isn't rewarding to me personally :)
The only adult I know with Aspergers has communication problems. His work ethic is great, but he's got serious issues with talking about what he's feeling. He's also got photosensitivity and tactile sensitivity.
What you're describing doesn't really sound like Aspergers, though. It sounds like there could be a deeper psychological cause. I'd suggest you see a doctor and get a professional diagnosis, instead of Ask Yahoo (not trying to be rude, here, hope you understand).
Hello!
My son 16 has Asbergers and my husband believes he has had it when he was young. He, husband has problems, with work and such. He was recently laid off..plant closure. He had a very big sense of comfort til then. Now he is like a fish out of water. Learning new things, as you say procrastination, and such. One thing he is doing is playing cribbage. This is forcing him to count and count fast. Any spelling games or count will help break a cycle.
Hope this helps..good luck

It can either be from Aspergerus or you need to reexamine your career path and determine if you would like to be doing something that is closer to your humanitarian potential. This often is a winning solution to your procrastination. I had the same problem, and I not only became an avid health care advocate, but engaged in volunteering in my town. Some church activities might also give you a boost. "Doing what I have to do" is a real sign of needing to move closer to your heart.
Take a leap of faith or use in conjunction with your current skills. You may also consider that you don't need to be at the same firm you are working in.
As for aspergers, you might have heard that children of 'techie' people develop the condition. Well, there are various things you can do to address it. Most of them include vitamins/music or 'toning' therapy/heavy metal removal/and behavioral counselling. I'd also like to share my input that Ritalin is not the answer.
