my friend's father passed away a year ago, and she's been put on xanax and prozac for it. i talked to her today and she didn't sound happier. she sounded more desperate and angry and sad than i've ever heard her, and i am honestly disturbed by this. she said she felt completely miserable the first two weeks she was on the drugs, having suicidal thoughts and everything, but now she felt a little better. i thought stuff like xanax and prozac are supposed to make you feel better, not worse. i've heard that for some people, this may actually make you feel worse than better. so is this right?

That is a wide open subject because everyone is different with different body chemistry. Some times the doctor has to change a medication several times before they get the right combination.

I know there are warnings about teens being on Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil and some of the other anti depressants. It seems they can be more prone to suicide when they take these drugs.

I am on Zoloft and Xanax. I have COPD. I find the Xanax takes away the anxiety of not being able to breathe.

Your friend needs to return to the doctor and find out what is going on. If she is still feeling this way after a year, these are not the drugs for her. Maybe she doesn't need any drug any longer.

Prozac has a long history of making some individuals suicidal. It even says that on the print-out that comes with the pills. It is not for everyone.

She may not be taking the meds right, the pills for them to do the job need to be taken everyday or how the RX is written. Also she might just need counseling. The pills usually take about a good 6 weeks to see improvement taken correctly. And most of this have side affects that happened in the first couple of weeks, they go away after a bit.

When I went on Zoloft, it made me feel worse so I switched to Paxil and I felt better. I'm on Prozac now and it's helping me.

If she is just seeing her family practice doctor they do not always give enough of the medicine. She should see a shrink. She could need to be switched to a different medicine. I was on Prozac and It didn't work for me. Xanax does help out. It calms you down when you have anxiety.

After several sessions of therapy, my therapist suggested that I try anti-depressant medication. It took a lot of trial and effort but I finally found a dosage that worked for me. I had been suffering from depression for many years and I finally feel like I am alive.

I'm on effexor xr and I feel 1000% better.

i have taken both and had very good results. u got 2 b careful with xanax, it can b addictive. they both worked well 4 me. they say Prozac can make u suicidal. i already have a tendency toward that, so i couldn't say.
