St John's Wort - does anyone know how long this takes to kick in.....?

Question:
......? Has St John's Wort worked for anyone else out there or is there something that's better? (non-recreational drugs of course).

Answers:
I believe St. Johns Wort takes about a month. It depends what exactly your symptoms are but here are a couple of other herbs that a lot of people find helpful:

Kava (Piper methysticum) is a member of the pepper family that has been cultivated by Pacific Islanders for over 3000 years for use as a social and ceremonial drink. The first description of kava came to the west with Captain James Cook, who traveled through the South Seas in a number of celebrated voyages. To this day, when village elders or others in the Pacific Islands come together for a significant meeting, they begin with an elaborate kava ceremony. Currently, kava is used in Europe and increasingly in the United States to treat stress, anxiety, and insomnia.

Valerian: Nature's valium. Another favorite for the treatment of anxiety is valerian. Derived from the dried rhizomes and roots of this tall plant, which grows in wet soil in many countries, valerian has been used for thousands of years as a folk remedy. As a natural relaxant, it is useful for several disorders including restlessness, nervousness, insomnia, menstural problems, and "nervous" stomach. Valerian acts on the brain's GABA receptors to produce a tranquilizing action that is similar to Valium-type drugs, but without the same side effects.

Other Answers:
I never had any luck with St. John's Wort. My doctor put me on Celexa. That works very well.
It takes about a week for it to kick in that it doesn't work.
I have heard that you shouldn't take St John's Wort if you are on the pill as it can make it ineffective.
St John's will usually take 2-5 days before you feel the affects. You have chosen well, try to stay away from predcribed drugs as addiction is likely especially if the problem is on going.
I take it when I feel down.
If you take it religiously every day it will work after about three days.
It works for me and I dont feel bad about taking it because it has no side-effects.

Hope it works for you and that you feel a bit better!!
It worked for me but be warned it can be strong. Took 3 -4 days to kick in and I found myself a little more relaxed for the exams.

Its works best with a life style change as well such as taking 1/2 hour out of every day just for you, like going for a short walk etc.,
when i am not too mad it takes under an hour
one hour maybe up to you relax
If you are taking it as an anti-depressant, STOP! It makes things WORSE. It does have other uses. Insufficient information in your question for a more detailed response.
I toke it for weeks did nothing at all for me...i hear it doesn't work for pot smokers it interferes with the chemicals.
I'd say give it a couple of weeks to see the benefits. If it doesnt seem to help, go to the Doctor and get a light anti depressant, theres nothing wrong with them.
Please see the webpage for more details on St Johns wort.
I,d say that you probably have to give it 2 weeks.I take it and find it much better than prescription anti-depressants.
I have tried it, but it didnt work sorry
What the Science Says
QUOTE
There is some scientific evidence that St. John's wort is useful for treating mild to moderate depression. However, two large studies, one sponsored by NCCAM, showed that the herb was no more effective than placebo in treating major depression of moderate severity.
NCCAM is studying the use of St. John's wort in a wider spectrum of mood disorders, including minor depression.
