Yes, there should be a mandatory waiting period, but if you want to die its your business, no one elses. (You would have to make sure they dont have a bunch of bills piled up first) No.

Like it or not, our society is based on Judeo-Christian philosophy and suicide of any kind is taboo.

I believe so. However, for the non-terminally ill, I'd have a waiting period of at least 6 months and proof that somebody will take care of their estate.

If someone really wants to die, they're going to kill themselves. and assisted suicide could reduce the number of people who jump off buildings or into traffic.

1. No

2. It is a complex question, but I still say No.

3. Some European Countries have it currently, and it has not worked the way it is supposed to.

4. Assisted suicide is supposed to be a system to protect the Doctor in an act of Mercy. In the Netherlands it has been used to "retroactively abort" a child who "should have not been born" and "would have been a burden on the family"

5. That scares the piss out of me.

6. No politically assisted suicide can never be made legal. It will be used wrongly. The chance that it will provide mercy cannot be fairly weighed against the monstrous chance that even one person will be murdered.

7. My Grandmother lived longer than she wanted to. She had cancer. It hurt my dad a lot to see her live like that. After she had been dead a few years I told my father that I had told her about that option and if she wanted it I would make it available to her, and make sure everyone else was clear of it. I found out that as much as Grandma's suffering hurt him, it hurt him more that he could not offer her that option. I could see it was a relief that I had. It was a relief to me that she did not accept my offer.

8. I still believe that assisted suicide should never be legal.

NO I work in a nursing home and until you have sat and held hand after hand of people pleading to die- you cannot answer this question. There comes a point where people are just waiting, family ,friends, the staff, and the patient. Imagine laying in a bed with everyone staring at you waiting for you to die and you don't even notice because mentally you are no longer there. It should be allowed, you should be able to make a legal document similar to the DNR that states your wishes.
