Doctor tells Patient to 'SHOOT HERSELF'....FREEDOM OF SPEECH??

Dr. Terry Bennett in New Hampshire advised a white woman she was now so obese she might be attractive only to black men. He also told another women after brain surgery that she should just 'shoot herself''!!?? New Hampshire Board of Medicine dropped charged against the doctor saying he was simply excercising his "Freedom of Speech"!!?? Maybe Dr. Bennett was excercising his "freedom of speech" but I think the New Hampshire Board of Medicine should all be given a "pee test" as it sounds as if they are all high on something?? What's your opinion??

According to experience, an average person will really believe what a doctor says and will try to follow his/her advice. So what was this doctor thinking? First code of medicine, DO NO HARM! Even if it's verbal, it still causes damage, believe me. Besides, I think they forgot, WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY. That doctor is a disgrace to all wonderful doctors out there! I'm sorry if I'm so angry but it's the truth. They hold great power yet they don't use it to help others! Please! I can only rest when that doctor is banished from the medical world. That doctor lost his/her right and the privelege to heal others!

That's a definite case of libel!! People sue for humiliation all the time! Mental anguish, defamation of character, or whatever!! I think it was wrong for him to tell those ladies that!!

The guy's obviously an insensitive turd. However, once you get into the business of deciding what can and cannot be said to a patient, you start to run into a sea of gray areas. Plus the potential for unwarrented or politically-motivated censorship becomes greater.

I think it's punishment enough that this jerk's name is all over the news. He can kiss most of his patients goodbye - not to mention his HMO(s).

I would put an ad in the paper and tell people why they should not pay for the jack*** to use his free speech on them. Then if I was one of his patients I would sue him.
Pee Test - not sure it would help maybe he needs a second opinion on shooting himself - I'll gladly give him that option for treatment of his condition

The AMA won't yank a doctor's license no matter what. They are supposed to police themselves but in truth that's a scam.

technically he is covered under that amendment. But i completely agree with you, a slap on the wrist is not fair punishment for what he's done (and that coming from someone who's in love with Dr. House-Fox Tues at 8)

I'd say you're doing the right thing by spreading the word. Hopefully people will find out and stop going to him, you can destroy him by word of mouth. and if he has a problem with that, say 'hey, its just freedom of speech!' write an email to everyone you know and tell them to send it on.

whoever was his attorney definitly was a good one. Maybe they should think about working for good people.
