housing for a mental patient?

my sis is a patient in a mental hospital in IL where she is a resident. they cannot discharge as she has no housing , how could I help her , i am in a senior hud bldg in fl and she cannot live here

I will answer your question with a question to start out with. WHY isn't this mental hospital doing more to help her find housing? There are halfway houses for people with mental problems that will help them be able to live more independantly. I would give this hospital the third degree and ask them why they haven't sat down with her and discuss housing options.

It sounds like you need to get in touch with your local chapter of NAMI (National Alliance of Mental Illness). You absolutely CANNOT do this alone. NOBODY can. You need to have a support system to help you help your sister.

Been in that situation in PA. Best advice I can give is contact the IL hospital to ask about what facilities does a patient with no money can go to (shelter, group home, etc). I know it's not much, but would go from there.
