I've PTSD, am on 10mg Xanax p/day -optimal dose. Does anyone else find only high doses of Xanax are effective?

Question:
I was prescribed the lowest dose of Xanax possible at first, some time ago. But the psychiatrists quickly realised it wasn't working and I responded only when the dose was brought up above 6mg per day, at least. I've always been one to need strong medictions, since I was little, so this is not as situation of tolerance or addiction. I am just wanting to know if anyone else on this list/area takes Xanax? What or, and at what dose is best for you? Or are very few on 10 mg daily (or, if you are, won't admi it)? I was told it's common for some women to need higher doses than others but I would like some confirmation which is why I've written this question here.

Answers:
It could be because your body gets amuned to the lower dose. I also have PTSD, I was on xanax but my DR took me off said it is very addictive and once you get used to lower dose then your body will need higher dose. the DR put me on buspar. hope this helps to understand that might be why you need higher dose.
wow if you take 10 mg a day, thats 5 bars... i used to take xanax like that, and i do understand what you mean about the higher doses and better response, but... 10 mg is a hell of a lot, maybe not theraputically for you, but when you stop taking it (and everyone has to stop because its not a long term treatment) it will be very tough for your body... what exactly is PTSD??? Good luck with everything...wow though, 10 mg a day... are you big in stature or what??? ive just never heard of anybody being prescribed that much...email me
