can cymbalta be taken with prozac simoultanously?
Question:
Answers:
From a physician: Prozac (fluoxetine) and cymbalta (duloxetine) are both "selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors" (SSRIs). They alter mood by affecting the same neurotransmitter pathways in the brain. The medications differ only slightly in their chemical makeup, and even less in their effect in the body.
Typically, if one SSRI is not working adequately, it is most appropriate to: (1) try a different class of medicine, (2) add a different class of medicine, (3) try a different medicine within the same class.
It is not as good to add a medicine so similar to the one already being taken - this may increase cumulative side effects, and present the danger of overdose.
You should be making lifestyle modifications (good diet, adequate sleep, EXERCISE, etc.) and participating in psychotherapy in addition to a medication. Cheers.

this is a question best answered by your doctor or your pharmacist...especially since both should have been prescribed by the same doc(?) and if not, you need to notify physicians of any and all meds you are taking so that they know not to prescribe something that will interact with something you're already on.
