Why do I constantly feel like this?

Question:
Pretty much everything depresses me, or puts me in a sad mood. I feel like Im not real, I just hate everything around me. I want so bad to just run away. Not that I even have to, b/c Im 19. But I just want to get out of this "life" Im living. I hate it. I wish I didnt feel like this, but its so hard to just shove the feeling aside. I dont know anymore..I dont know what to do to make myself appreciate what I have, and to stop thinking that if i actually "ran away" my problems would be solved. I know this is probably really confusing. But I dont know how to feel better!??

I just want to actually enjoy hanging with my friends, instead of always wishing I were somewhere else, and that things were different.

What should I do!?

Answers:
Are you having family problems? Are you stressed about college? No college? Listen from someone who has been in the same place you feel you are in now
1. go take a nice long shower and calm down and if you want to cry that is a good place to do it
2. go to your room, get dressed, set on your bed close your eyes
3. really think about what you want
4. think about where you would be if you did not have the home you were in now.
5. get up and go do something you really enjoy.
If you can not find pleasure in it, go see a doctor.
Did you know that teens are more prone to depression than anyone else. If you are depressed there is no shame but you do need help!
I sure hope you can do the right thing.
GOOD LUCK and Take Care!!

Please, please, please seek professional help! Talk to your regular doctor, he/she can refer you to a psychologist. There are medications that can help (contrary to what Tom Cruise thinks!)

Talk this over with your doctor. When your depression starts effecting your daily life, it is time to get it checked out. Many, many - millions - of people suffer from depression and you can no more "get over it" if you are clinically depressed than cure yourself of diabetes. If your doctor doesn't sufficiently address your concerns, get a second opinion. Depression is something that we know a lot about, but not nearly as much as there is to know. New research comes out all the time. There is nothing anyone on here can tell you that will "fix" this. Nineteen is too young to feel this way. See a doctor and talk with a counselor. Good luck!!

What I do is sign up for a class in something I am interested in like sewing, sculpting, painting, or even auto mechanics. I am then involved have a purpose and doing something that interests me. Jr. colleges have adult classes or musuems sometines have classes. There are a few possibilities:
1. You may have a chemical imbalance - see a doctor.
2. You might be bored - do something silly and different.
3. You might have outgrown all your old activities and need to see what can be changed in the future.
4. You might be afraid of what is coming in the future, now that high school is over.
5. You might have gotten yourself into a rut - get out and walk. You would benefit from exercise.
6. You might only be seeing the small picture of your life. Get out and volunteer - helping others helps you too.
7. You might be focusing on the negative parts of your life. Start to journal. Include the good things (gratitude journal - what are you grateful for). There are some good on line journals: Opendiary.com is great.
Good luck.

Depression at any age is a nasty disease. Depression can prevent us from enjoying life's pleasures no matter how little or great. Depression robs us from feeling good about ourselves and others and can give us the sense that life is not worth living. However depression can be properly treated and cured by medication and therapy and by positive thinking on our parts.

Make yourself an appointment to see your family physician. He or she may recommend a good psychologist or psychiatrist you could go to for medication and therapy help.

Medications alone or therapy alone won't help you. The two go hand in hand. Before going. Do some investigative work on your own. Write down all your positives in your life. Acknowledge all your accomplishments and feel great about them! Then write down all your negatives in your life. Acknowledge and accept that you have them and see if you can change any of them for yourself. Take these lists with you when you see your doctor. Between the doctor and the lists, will help you in guiding you how to improve your life and make you feel better about yourself.

Good luck to you and I hope you feel better soon!
