Why do we sometimes get in a 'funk'?

Question:
I have a great life. I have 3 wonderful kids, one is starting pre-k in the fall, my middle child has just started using the big girl potty and I have the most quiet baby girl anyone could ask for. I'm married to a hard-working man who provides enough to allow me to stay home with my kids. I have absolutely no reason to be unhappy but I am? I feel awful, like I don't appreciate all the things I do have, but I am just sad all day everyday and this isn't like me. I got into a funk, of sorts. Why do people get like that? Does everyone get in a funk every now and then? How do you get back out of one?

Answers:
You have heard the phrase "What goes up must come down".
Well, it works that way for moods too. Remember what it's like to try to stand and balance the center of a teeter totter? It seems almost impossible, because one side or the other will dip lower, or even sit on the ground.
Our body chemicals can be like that too. We try to be as balanced as we can in our life, but there is always something to push us off kilter, whether it's hormones, infections, stress or other illness, or relational issues..

How do you get out of it? If you've been feeling really down for a few weeks -- get a check-up with your Dr.
De-stress wherever possible, making time (an hour or a day) just for you.
Balance...sleep, eat, get out in the fresh air, exercise, talk with adults, meet with a friend, have a book you're reading or a project you're working on, watch the sunset / sunrise, and pay attention to your faith, learning and growing.

Most of the year there is a program called MOPS Mothers Of PreSchoolers. It's a great way to get out of the house and meet other moms, to learn and be creative together, a chance to let your kids play supervised in the nursery.
Usually these groups are meeting at churches during the weekdays, every 2 weeks.

You have a baby girl, when you wean her you'll get a drastic hormone change - and all the emotions that go with it. Maybe this could be what you're looking at.

If you can't get it under control in about 4-6 weeks, or if you get severely depressed rapidly, Go back to the Dr. You may need more specific medical help.
Because you listen to George Clinton and the parliament funkadelic. WE WANT THE FUNK, WE WANT THE FUNK
Sounds like you need to get out of the rut and get back into the groove.
If this kind of thing happens every day for at least a few weeks, you could just be experiencing mild depression. Clinical depression doesn't necessarily have anything to do with anything wrong in your life. Keep track of your moods and make sure they don't get out of control, and pay attention to your menstrual cycle in relation to this problem as well.

It could very well just be that you are in a rut of sorts, and maybe you need to get out and socialize more now and then, or maybe take up a hobby. Excercise is a great way to shake off bad moods as well. Just live life and deal with what it hands you hehe.
