My boy appeared drunk yesterday ... went to the hospital. We suspected drug use. A kid that was with him?

Question:
earlier said he took 3 bars ? of Zanax ?? Zanies . Xanax ?
I feel my boy needs help and perhaps rehab to stop trying everything that comes down the pike. Is there any help out there or a good course of action ?? Thanks .

If you think he has a problem with drugs, you can take him to your local county funded drug and alcohol commission and have an evaluation or assessment on him. They will then tell you if he meets criteria for a certain type of drug and alcohol treatment. It might be rehab, it might be outpatient counseling, or it might not be anything. The most important thing is to take him to see a professional as xanex is a highly addictive drug and if he is dependent on them, withdraw can be deadly.
yes but not on YouQA.com .
well i'm 14, and i smoke pot and my friends do lsd... and im a straight a student. =)
wait depends is this common? like does he actually need rehab or is he just doing it once in a while if its once in a while then no rehab kids always expeirment but if its out of control then definalty rehab
. He just wants attention from you. Positive or negative. If your kid isnt secure with himself he will get into trouble like that. If he isnt secure with himself it is because you havent been doing your job.
ooh, goodness me, what did the hospital say?? they can refer you to a specialist for help!
If he's addicted to illegal or prescription medications you can put him in rehab or have him see a therapist. The best way to go about it is to talk to his doctor and see if he/she can help your makea good plan on how to go about it.
you have to keep him away from friends you suspect to be drug takers, and try to spend time with him
I defiantly do what you suggested rehab. He might hate you for it, but i think it's the only way. I was once very close to someone who smoked weed. I didn't like it and asked him to quit. It was very very hard for him to quit by himself (about a year). And when he did he started cigarettes. So it's an addiction that your boy needs to break. Rehab I think is the best solution.
take him to his doctor first of all.. get him into rehab. and please, for the sake of your son, don't take to much advise from internet question/answer sites. we are not professionals, if you care about your son, have the professionals help him. good luck
Xanax is a very habit forming benzodiazapene. It is prescribed for anxiety and panic disorders.

Your best course of action is to consult with a mental health professional. Request a psych evaluation at a respected behavioral health establishment.

Every patient is unique. Every patient's reasons for "escape" are different and they are the underlying cause of the reckless use of drugs or alcohol. Simply addressing the symptoms and ignoring the source of the problem is the most common mistake I see in my practice.

Flying off the handle will not help your son. Thoughtful, caring direction is what will help you to accomplish what you need to do in the hopes of raising a happy healthy human being. Good luck. Be kind and LISTEN!
You've had some good answers here, especially from "Honeyface", and some really UNhelpful ones. Obviously, your parental instincts are good. You are worried about your son for a reason.

I don't have any practical advice but I can offer moral support as one parent to another. I can hear the anguish in your voice. I would be the same in your situation.

Don't listen to the silly, negative reactions - just trust your own instincts and seek help in your community.

Good luck.
Jesus.
A Xanax bars are higher mgs. He took 3?
Uhm, yeah you definitely have reason for concern. Even if he was just stupid and didn't realize how much he was taking, he has access to some adult's medicine cabinet because no doctor would prescribe a Xanax bar to a child.

Like someone said, Xanax is highly addictive. I know. And it does not take long. If he was still standing after 6mgs, he has a tolerance and yes he needs help.

Start with the psych eval to see why he's taking Xanax. It is VERY calming and basically does have the exact same effects on the body as alcohol. It might not be too late for a good doctor to switch him to something more reasonable like Lexapro.
