Some people have a genetic predisposition to depression.
It is important, however, to distinguish between a psychiatric condition (e.g., major depression) and normal, entirely healthy personality differences (e.g., being introverted or quiet).
There are lots of causes for depression. If you're a teenager, the rapidly changing hormone in your body can be the cause.

Depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. It is treatable with medication like Zoloft and Wellbutrin. No one knows why some people have this disorder and others don't.
You are probably pretty young to be diagnosed with it, but there is a long term depression called dysthymia. It's usually when somebody is depressed (at different levels) for over 20 years.
In your case - quiet and anti-social doesn't mean you’re depressed. You could just be introverted (like to stay to yourself). There is nothing wrong with that. Depressed means you are unhappy most of the time. If that sounds like you talk to your parents or a school counselor. And maybe you should see a professional. Sometimes it just helps to talk things through.
