The quality of nursing care has REALLY fallen off since my day.
It comes down to the fact that THEY SHOULD HAVE KNOWN!! Your mother's medical records SHOULD HAVE gone with her to the hospital. And the nurses SHOULD HAVE read them before they even touched her.
These were the procedures when I first started nursing more than 30 years ago...and somehow I can NOT believe that the "rules" have been changed!
I find that the majority of nurses today are more in it for the money than because they have the need to help people. Which is really sad. Of course, the same thing goes for the majority of doctors...they look at those potential paycheques when they are deciding on their majors, and pick the profession that has the greatest potential for monetary reward, based on their own abilities or propensities.
It used to be that you had to put up with doctors that got into the profession for the potential POWER it afforded them. And that was bad enough--now the power over life and death comes well down on the list of reasons people are getting trained in the medical field...behind potential monetary reward, and the prestige that comes with being able to put an MD or RN behind their names!
This is a sad, SAD commentary on our nation and our species.
Most bracelets on the market they charge you for life time membership.

that are for different things
they have a medical symbol on them
they also come in necklaces
i.e.
heart
asthma
Alzheimer's
they only say that on the back
if she is getting lost
and you want her address and health number on it
they have blank bracelets and you can take them to the engravers they charge be the letter but not too much
again on the front of these they have the medical symbol
some places knowing what it is for they have discounts or they do it for free.

There is a "safe return" bracelet available from the Alzheimer's Association. It is around $40. It says on it that this is an Alzheimer's patient and there's a code number and phone number. It's primarily for if the person is lost and the police pick him/her up wandering. The 800 goes to a central place, which has the phone number(s) on file of the caretaker, who is then notified that the lost person is found and where they are. The AD patient's name and ID are NOT on the bracelet for safety's sake.
In your mom's case, I don't know why the nursing home didn't tell the hospital that your mom had AD. That seems strange.
