take your mind off whatever it is as best as you can, get up and get outside, clean do anything
I've been diagnosed with it for 18 years, I have learned ways for me to control it and not let it control me. It's very complex to explain. it also depends on the cycle your OCD is in. If you look at my profile and a question I asked in mental health yesterday, the title is "Am I the only one who thinks this way" maybe what I wrote will make you think more positive and do some good with it for you. You never know, just a suggestion, it also lets you know you're not alone. A lot of people with this condition feel embarrassed and think they are outkasts when eally you have a great mind, just put it to use for you!! :)
The best thing you can do is too read some books to educate yourself on how OCD works, and to use something called Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) in which you slowly expose yourself to situations that cause anxiety and resist performing a compulsion. Your anxiety will increase at first but if you stick with it and don't do a ritual, it will eventually decrease as you learn that no harm will come to you from the situation. it's the best treatment there is for OCD.
Marijuana is very beneficial for helping overcome OCD. But your psychatrist won't tell you that.
