Stressed out by work?
Question:
Every day when I get home from work, I am on the verge of tears and physically exhausted yet I have problems falling asleep when I go to bed. I'm smoking more every day. I have anxiety attacks regularly (ie, a couple a day) and I've noticed an increase in stress related chest pain. I have no doubt my blood pressure is through the roof. I've had dizzy spells where I almost black out. I don't feel depressed, as such.
I've tried all the usual coping with stress tips etc but nothing seems to be working. I just feel like I can't take it any more. I'm off to see my doctor the day after tomorrow...what should I tell him and what do you think his course of action will be? I hate going to the doctor, and this in itself is adding to my stress :(

I also dislike going to the dr, but dang, if you need meds.well, there simply isnt another choice. I say copy and paste this question into a Word document and bring it with you and have the dr read it. Both you and the dr will be glad you did. I suffered from anxiety attacks for years, but have controlled them with medication (fluoxitine 20 mg) and deep breathing for the chest pains.
I am right there with ya. I am considering asking about antidepressants or some kind of anxiety medication. It seems there is so much stress at work and no one is happy with my work! I have started to look for another job, but I am worried about a pay cut.
I am sorry i could not help you much, but I can relate. I'm kinda in the same boat.
If you think the cause of your stress is work then deal w/ it..Either you voice out your opinions to your boss and her boss and figure out how to make the load lighter OR quit your job. Meds will not help it unless you treat the CAUSE of your stress.
A doctor will suggest prescription drugs as a temporary solution. And that is exactly how you should see them.
I also went through stressful situations in my jobs. I had an aversion to bosses.
But, in the end it all comes down to what you tell yourself. If you feel you can cope you will, and if you feel you can't cope well you won't.
If you are doing something you love it is easy. If you are doing something you do not love, well find something that you enjoy about it.
I was made an administrator after many years of programming. I am a programmer and that is how I wanted to finish my career.
In order to get through my day, I always did my administrative duties first. Then late in the afternoon, I would do any maintenance work on my programs. That way I was doing what I enjoyed just before I went home.
It was like I did what I needed to do first then I rewarded myself by doing what I enjoyed.
I have several articles dealing with stress and depression and thinking on my website that you will find helpful.

Ixtana - you sound like me a few years ago! Get outa that place before it does you in! Seriously- Try to get another job. You have to put your health first if you don't it will just wear you down. Your body is telling you something. Listen to it. I don't think running off to the doctor for meds is the right answer although it may help you deal with the anxiety.
Take control of the situation - either you can improve your work environment or you can't. It is what it is. But to stay when it is getting on top of you is not in your best interest.
If you are good at your job surely you will be appreciated elsewhere? If the warning was wrong - it's now on your file you may want to take it up with your manager's manager?
Good luck with what you decide but truly - don't stay in a job that is getting on top of you.
Take care
