Ssri's dont work?

Question:
i think i have depression and anxiety but sadly enoguh ssri's such as paxil lexapro and zoloft do not work on me. what other medications work well with anxiety and depression? thanks.

Answers:
Your doctor should know better than us what to try next. There are SNRIs like Effexor, and atypical anti-depressants like Wellbutrin and Cymbalta. SSRIs don't work for me, either, so I'm on Wellbutrin XL.
They don't work for me either. I prefer to do high does of vitamin B and Calcium seems to calm me. Get lots of exercise and watch your diet and sleep habits. Get fresh air and try to get some wholesome fun in your life.
Hi Mike,

Another in this same class is Prozac. Some SSRI's do and don't work. It's often trial and error because of the mechanisms involved and including dosage changes. Work with a psychiatrist please.

Cipram, cipramil or citalopram is another, again seek the advice of your psychiatrist. Also there are the tricyclics which work well with some persons, just an older class of meds with some additional side effects, although not necessarily so.

Good luck and God's speed.

i'm sorry to hear that . they don't work on me either. infact , it seems to get worse when i use them . with the anixeity a dr gave me klonipin. it's very good on me. because i hate xanax and drugs that make me feel doped up.i take one and after a few minutes i've stopped shaking or having the attack without feeling anything else. about the depression , i don't know , for me getting sleep and eating eggs (of all things) helped. breath . in like youre blowing up a balloon in your stomach and slowly out do it about 5or 6 times . it sounds dumb but it really does help . it also energizes me . i know mostly why i'm depressed. that helps. if you do, maybe work on the source. if you can do nothing about it work on accepting it. or getting through it . anything you can do to get your mind active and off the problem helps .but that's not always so easy. you know what my mom told me to thhink of a good movie when i couldn't get my mind off problems to fall asleep . try anything (legal and isn't harmful)thought i'd better throw that in . i tried an illegal thing . helped but got me in trouble. so i stopped,i should have known better well i did i just did it anyway that's the kind of so- n-so i am anythime you can laugh is helpful it releases somekind of hormone or endorphine. just laugh . alone . do it . what do you have to lose?(unless the men in white coats are there)
I had the same problem. 10 years of different SSRI's. Horrible. Wellbutrin in combination with Seroquil seems to be helping more than the SSRI's. Hope this helps.
Lamicital has been shown to work with people experiencing depressive symptoms that have not been able to obtain relief with ssri's
Hi Mike

If you know more about the side effects of ssri, you will know the best way for you is gradually tapering your so-called therapy. The link below is the Paxil's label prepared by GSK & approved by FDA. Please have a look on page 31-33, that's the horrible side effects of what you had taken.
