Can watching the television become an addiction?
Question:
Answers:
Anything done in excess can become an addiction, especially if it interferes with your ability to do other things. Some people become so obsessed with their favorite characters and favorite shows that they almost become part of their real life and that separation line between fantasy and reality becomes blurred.
It can happen at any age where the person is old enough and intelligent enough to be able to understand the program they are watching. I am sure that at some point there have been kids that have thought building a crazy contraption by Acme and ending up running off a cliff after a bird would be fun (Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner) or putting on a cape and jumping off a building thinking they were Superman. There is the whole controversy over whether violent programs lead to violence but that is a whole other topic of discussion.
Children aren't the only ones though. I did hear a story told at my church about a lady coming in asking for prayers for all these people. Finally the pastor, wondering how this old lady knew so many people in need, found out that none of these people were real but actually soap stars! Therefore, it can happen to anyone, young and old alike. TV watching and getting involved in your favorite show is great, however when it reaches the point of obsession where you can't get off the couch or you may miss two seconds of the show, then it is a problem
Anyway,
it's possible to become addicted to essentially anything.
there is no age one becomes addicted.
addiction is a great mystery.
heck yeah! when my sister was young, she was addicted to watching cartoons!
Yes. Like it's easy to watch it and you feel like "it thinks for you". Like you dont have to think of images.. you just see and stare. Somewhere in your brain that stuff is stored but you didin't really learn things but memorize things.
That sensation of watching and getting artificial knowledge is addicting.
I dont know if i what i said is acurate/makes sense but that's the point of view/interpretation of a 16 year old :P
Yeah, watching TV is as addicting as sex, the internet (which I'm addicted to). Just about anything is addicting in todays' society.
