Lately there has been this one friend like every time Im around her I start to feel drained.?

Question:
It didnt bother me before or I didnt notice how tedious her conversation was but lordy. Ever since I have gone into recovery I realize how she isnt really good for me to be around. Its like I shut down my body and life suddenly feels like crap. Has anyone else experienced a friend like this? I just find it amazing how I notice everything now about how selfish she is, before I never noticed.

As they say, change people, places and things.

I have a friend from grade school, jr. high and high school, my matron of honor . . .

She dated this guy for 20 years and last year he died. I realize she is lost, but during those 20 years she never once called to go out for dinner, etc. Now she is calling me 2 or 3 times a week. I look at the caller id and put the phone back on the table. I call her back the next day or so unless she calls again. She never leaves a message so I figure it's not important.

Sorry, I got carried away. We have nothing in common (we are in our late 50s) and she does all the talking. I say, uh huh, ah, no, mmmm, yea . . . I'm exhausted when I get off the phone and I haven't said anything!

You know what you have to do. THE NEXT RIGHT THING.

Fortunately, it doesn't affect my sobriety (6 years+).

Find a new friend and lose her ASAP. You will feel much better. Good Luck.
Ewww...sounds like a true fun sucker. I've had "friends" like these. Who would want a person around that makes you feel differently. I think you know what you need to do :) Get a new friend and be happy!
i am going through the SAME thing. A 'friend' of mine moved to Ny about a year ago. Now when i go visit her, even if its only for 2 days... i found myself coming home and talking to my fiance about how horrible the visit was, how she whined & complained the entire time (shes a selfish & spoiled girl, no doubt about it) I think maybe since she moved away..I've come to realize in our short visits what her personality is REALLY like.

I havent 'shunned' her, but i make NO effort to contact her. I'm always 'busy' or 'working'. This way she doesnt get extremely pissed (I mean she WAS my friend, which means she knows alot of things about me i'd rather her not spread around because of anger) but i kinda distance myself from her at the same time

I suggest you do the same! You'll feel better, i do!
Everyone has had the unfortunate experience of being around someone who "sucks the life" out of you. Just minimize your contact with her. She is doing nothing to contribute to your well being or enjoyment of life.
yesss omg i had a friend like that she was soo negitive that she didnt have to say anything that should could turn my smile upside down my advise is to drop this friend because she will bring down your mood and even you trying to make her positive will leave you emotionally drained ...basically she is sour and will need to learn how to be happy by herself
well sometimes i'll be around people i truly like and i feel unworthy to be with them or i can't function normally because i feel worthless alot and they don't.or atleast i think they don't..and my friends aren't my real friends because i'll be hanging out with them and realize they aren't the right people for me.
I'm 14 and unfortunately know exactly how you feel. As much as I know I need to get away from her, I can't. The worst part is... she got me to try smoking(and like it), drink wine(3 of us shared a whole bottle), and a lot of bad things. I don;t even know who I am anymore, I just need to get away.
