Treat the source, not the symptom.
Try to find ways to reduce the stress of your job - delegate projects, extend deadlines, switch your highest stressors with someone else's stressors (for example, you hate dealing with kids but you like old people, and your coworker is the opposite, so you deal with her older clients and she handles your children clients). You may like your job, but you;d like it even more if it wasn't killing you.
Also, look for simple ways to deal with stress. Practice mindful meditation and deep breathing. Take up yoga. Exercise regularly. Call friends or family for emotional support. Learn to let go of the small stuff - ask yourself if anyone will literally DIE if this doesn't get down on time or perfectly or whatever. If the answer is no, then it's not the end of the world, is it?
All jobs are stressful, unless you find something that you enjoy about them.
Some stress is good for you. If you had no stress you would be dead.
Prescription drugs are a short term solution. What you need is to train yourself in your mind and thinking to cope with the stress and depression.
My suggestion is that you find a neuro-therapist or cognitive therapist in your area.
Neuro-therapists specialize in longterm depression. And the length of time is very short.

i have been on alot of different medications over the years. sometimes a combination of medication is better than just one pill. i have taken effexor before and found it did not help me. i suggest seroquel, i have known it to help many people. a lot of medications had no effect on me, but i can say that seroquel did help me with deppression and stress. also have you tried any classes sucha s yoga or pilates. i heard that this helps people as well.
