Answers:
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is one of the most controversial diagnoses in psychology today. It is a serious mental illness characterized by pervasive instability in moods, interpersonal relationships, self-image, and behavior. This instability often disrupts family and work life, long-term planning, and the individual's sense of self-identity.
There is a high rate of self-injury without suicide intent, as well as a significant rate of suicide attempts and completed suicide in severe cases.Patients often need extensive mental health services, and account for 20 percent of psychiatric hospitalizations.Yet, with help, many improve over time and are eventually able to lead productive lives.People with BPD often have highly unstable patterns of social relationships. While they can develop intense but stormy attachments, their attitudes towards family, friends, and loved ones may suddenly shift from idealization (great admiration and love) to devaluation (intense anger and dislike). Thus, they may form an immediate attachment and idealize the other person, but when a slight separation or conflict occurs, they switch unexpectedly to the other extreme and angrily accuse the other person of not caring for them at all.Although the cause of BPD is unknown, both environmental and genetic factors are thought to play a role in predisposing patients to BPD symptoms and traits. Studies show that many, but not all individuals with BPD report a history of abuse, neglect, or separation as young children.Forty to 71 percent of BPD patients report having been sexually abused, usually by a non-caregiver.Treatment includes psychotherapy which allows the patient to talk about both present difficulties and past experiences in the presence of an empathetic, accepting and non-judgemental therapist. The therapy needs to be structured, consistent and regular, with the patient encouraged to talk about his or her feelings rather than to discharge them in his or her usual self-defeating ways. Sometimes medications such as antidepressants, lithium carbonate, or antipsychotic medication are useful for certain patients or during certain times in the treatment of individual patients. Many hormones, body constituents, and drugs are steroids. Thus, the term steroid may carry many meanings. For example, steroids may refer to the corticosteroid drugs such as prednisone used to reduce swelling, pain, and other symptoms of inflammation. 70% of people who take anti-depression medicine, still have depression.antidepressants are believed to work by slowing the removal of certain chemicals from the brain. These chemicals are called neurotransmitters.Neurotransmi... are needed for normal brain function. Antidepressants help people with depression by making these natural chemicals more available to the brain.
I have never heard of a medication called an anti-sarcastic, and I couldn't find any sign of it on the Internet. I think it must be something else.
anti sarcastic - not heard of that one before...
Your friend can always seek a second opinion. Probably recommended for issues such as mental health. Many doctors are quick to prescribe medicines such as tranquillizers and sedatives. Much easier than tackling the real problem.
Anti-sarcastic? Maybe you mean ANTI-PSYCHOTIC...ya think?
It would be better to communicate with the doctor and tell him /her that she doesn't understand and needs more information.
Hey.I have borderline personality disorder and depression.I'm 19 and got diagnosed 4 years ago now. I get anti-depressants and anti-psychotics, but i've never heard of anti-sarcastic medication. Also, steroids are nothing to do with borderline personality.
Some people see it as a mental illness and others see it as just a problem but not an actual illness.
People are usually diagnosed with it due to have mixed/confused emotions, may self-harm,have very uncontrollable moods for the slightest things. They are very sensitive to people's thoughts and feelings.People say it's usually to do with how you were brought up or if there was trauma when they were young.
This site's really good it helped me understand when i first got diagonosed.Hope this helps .
