What's the best way to fight insomnia?
Question:
Answers:
+first of all, get the tv or computer out of your bedroom
+get a white noise machine that plays roaring ocean or put a fan in your room that makes a white noise
+make sure your bed is comfortable & clean and your room dark enough
+lay down and count backwards from 100
+take deep breaths and incite yourself to yawn. Reading about yawning makes me yawn... writing about yawning makes me *yawn* some more... yeah you just yawned twice now didn't you?
Once you start yawning, climb into bed and close your eyes and breathe, just breathe. Let gravity cradle you.
I stopped fighting it a long time ago - I just like to stay up late. But I force myself to go lay down somewhere around midnight, and sure as shootin I am usually asleep by the time I get close to 30. (counting backwards, not 30 years old!)
Drink... LOL get pills, I said I would never use them but I do... they help..
try a glass of milk right before you crawl into bed and NO it does not need to be warmed up -- cold is fine
Ask your doctor for Xanax. It works for me.
Drink milk or soy milk right before going to bed. They both contain trytophan which causes sleepiness.
First is are you keeping a set bed time. Some people find setting up a routine to follow. some find exercise a way to get tired, Milk or item containing tryptofan. soft music or sounds of waves or wind. keep searching . Try not to go the alcohol route it will cause problems in the long run. You can go to your MD and get medication but its best to use them for short term.
Exercise regularly, even if it's only a half hour walk. Eat healthy foods. Meditate or take up yoga. See a therapist if you have issues besides the regular life stuff. These life skills are much healthier than medication.
If you are doing the above but need a quick fix, Benadryl helps some. It's the same stuff as the OTC sleep meds. Just don't get addicted. If that doesn't work, see your doc and ask about a hypnotic like ambien or lunesta. Don't go the benzo route (xanax, valium, etc). That stuff is seriously addictive for some.
And, yeh, drinking is a really bad solution. It doesn't get ya decent sleep, but it is a depressant and has lovely side effects like hang overs and alcoholism.
HIT it in the head and knock that fool out!
Insomnia is just your body losing its natural rythem, so you have to reset yourself. If you dont want to work at it, just go to bed at whatever time you deem resonable, give yourself 30 min to fall asleep, if your not asleep by then, get up and go to another room and read a book or write something with pen and paper, computers and t.v will only stimulate your brain twice as long as you watch/ mess with it.(i.e 2 hrs tv means 2 extra hours awake after its off) Don't sleep more than 5 hrs a night, so youll actually be tired the next night.
maybe many ways, but for me definitely without involving any sleeping pills.
the cause of insomnia is stress and it's hard to get rid of it since problems is everywhere
1. Every night, half an hour before retiring, go to your room, where you can be entirely alone & as remote as possible from noise and distraction. 2. Seat yourself in a wide & comfortable chair, or, better still, lie down on your back at full length. See that your clothing is loosened, so that you will suffer no distressing annoyance on this account. Compose yourself as if for sleep, assuming a position of restfulness, abandon & utter relaxation. Close your eyes, letting the lids rest lightly on your cheeks. 3. Shut your mind resolutely against every form of bodily sensation. Forget for the time that you are encumbered with a body. 4. Bar out of your consciousness every memory, every thought of the past. 5. Build a mental picture of the thing you want to have, to do or to be – the one thing that you immediately desire first & most of all. By this we mean nothing indefinite. We do not refer to ultimate aims that can come only as the result of long periods of effort. We mean something specific, something that can be yours tomorrow, something that in itself constitutes the next step in your chosen career. 6. See yourself finding the ways and means of realizing your desire, overcoming obstacles one after another, all the obstacles that can possibly arise. See yourself called upon to display, & displaying, alertness, promptness, courage, confidence, resourcefulness, patience, push, enterprise, expert knowledge, insight, shrewdness, tact, self-control, decision. See yourself face to face with the situation that confronts you in real life and manifesting the qualities & doing the things necessary to your purpose. Put yourself body & soul into this picture. Multiply details. Rivet your mind upon it. 7. Advance step by step, logically, wisely, consistently, to the climax of the drama. See yourself winning out. See yourself solving the problem, getting the thing you want, acting the part you desire to play. Detach your spirit from the flesh of this world & incorporate it in the mental image of yourself. Live the victory mentally until a sense of its reality permeates your soul. 8. Make your dream picture as delightful as possible. Dwell upon it with joyful satisfaction. Warm your heart with a feeling of thankfulness that that which you have so long desired is really yours. This feeling of gratitude, this emotional element, will bring forth associations that will give life to the picture & will animate your faith. Keep yourself tight shut in this dream world for at least fifteen minutes. 9. Arise and make your preparations for the night. Then upon retiring once more close your eyes & let your mind dwell upon your vision for five or ten minutes or until you fall asleep. Let it be the last thing in your thoughts as you become unconscious. 10. Every time you are awake during the night call the mental picture before you & keep it in consciousness as long as you remain awake. 11. In the morning, immediately upon awaking, repeat the procedure set out in the third, fourth and fifth instructions. 12. The more of your spare time you spend in this way, the more promptly will you actualize your ideals. By repeated concentration, every detail of the image of your desire will be so deeply engraved upon your mind as to exert an influence throughout the day. It will inhibit wasteful emotions and impulses. It will give you poise and self-possession. It will so inspire you with its promise as to awaken an energizing response in the profoundest depths of your subconsciousness
I'm wishing you well and sending love your way. Hope this helps, Warm Regards, and thank you for your question.
