Are these two things related?
Question:
Answers:
Yes, there is likely a connection.
The connection has to do with an (illusory) sense of control. With cutting, the cutter controls the PAIN. The pain/damage is not inflicted upon you from the outside. You are the one "holding all the emotional cards", so to speak. It is way of "protecting" yourself emotionally, which, in the end, doesn't work very well.
Restricting food intake serves the same purpose. You are the one holding all the cards. You decide what (and if) you will eat. You control the numbers on the scale, etc.
Unfortunately, both of these behaviors, ironically enough, end up taking control of the sufferer, rather than the sufferer controlling them. Things can get out of hand with both of these behaviors in a very short period of time.
You would be wise to get yourself into therapy. Pronto.
The earlier the intervention, the higher the likelihood of success.
probably.i've cut myself before too...i think it all has to do with the self esteem..
Its all connected. Its all low self esteem, or giving youself an immediate pain to think about (hunger pain, pain from cutting yourself) so you dont think about what is really bothering you. The fact that you are posting on yahoo about it shows that you want help. Find someone you trust and talk about it. Go to a mental health professional.
maby because cutting yourself is not helping you feel the way you would like to so you tried not eating to give you the feeling that you were seeking.
hope that helps, try to stop do things that make you feel good. the better you feel about yourself the better you will feel.
