Are you afraid of failure?

Question:
Have you ever said to yourself, im not going to do this or that because I know I will fail.

I have no tolerance for my own failure. I have completly shut off my life as of recent in order to advance farther in my carrer. I dont speak to any of my friends, I am not talking to my family, and I study all the time.I am at a point now where it is sink or swim. If I were to fail I have nothing else. It will strip me of my confidance, pride, and my self respect. Not to mention I will have no income.

By putting my life on hold, I eat, beath, sleep, and live for my job right now. There is nothing else.

I am 23, white male

I have a question for all of you, in order to achive something would you be willing to go this far.

Answers:
You are not afraid of failure, rather you are afraid of success. Furthermore you may have an issue with pride, in turn blocking any "help seeking behavior".
No, failure is just part of trying and learning.
I didn't learn to surf on the first try, I had to eat a few waves first.
Are you truly Career orientated?..To fail is to learn and grow, sure its not a good feeling but to sacrifice everything and everyone else in your life is very extreme. I hope the career you are striving for is an EXCELLENT one with many rewards for such devotion to detail. I admire your determination and focus, but worry that you are to hard on yourself, not to mention the folks who get pushed aside. My thoughts in life are that there is no such thing as failure, if you truly just do your best!! If thats just not good enough, well you are heading in the wrong direction. Ease up on yourself huh?...and Good luck!!
Since i've started university, i have become deathly afraid of failure. I suffer with depression and i let it mess up my 1st year. I'm trying my best to rewrite the wrong, it never seems enough.

On 10/9/07, they decide if my studies are terminated. and I know if i fail, i will kill myself.

You sound so hardworking and dedicated, i hope you achieve everything you want in life - you sound like you deserve it!
I agree failure is a part of life. We alway do an excercise to decide these types of questions. Try this...close your eyes and image yourself looking in on your own funeral. What would you want people to say, who do you want there..what would you have liked your life to be? If all you want is your carreer, in my opinion, it would be a lonely life. what happens when you succeed and you have all that you want, where do you go next? good luck!
Nope. Everyone fails. Failing is as valuable a learning too, as success. Hey, my take on your plea for advice is that you really want to be coaxed to not be so neurotic. OK, I'll coax you. If your perceived social and work related demands and/or expectations seem to be overwhelming you, just talk to yourself. Be honest when you open your emotional vault. And yes, If anyone has any intelligence, they will recognize their limitations. If I do know how to use something, especially in my profession, I just let it be known. Then I seek an opportunity to learn how it works. That works.
yes, i am always been afraid of failure
I am much older an I have been afraid of failure all my life. The consequences of being afraid of failure is being a perfectionist. So I rarely if ever finish anything I start out to do. Its is very debilitating.
