MASSIVE weight gain on celexa?

Question:
I'm sick of it. i haven't eaten in the past few days and I STILL gained weight on it. I'm up 25 LBS since march and I excersize more and watch my diet...this last week I even stopped eating. What other medication can I get on that promotes weight loss? I am MORE moody now etc since the weight gain and am having chest pains

Answers:
There are no diet pills that work. I can tell you with certainty that there are three anti-deppressants that actually cause you to LOSE about 5% of your weight, and they cure depression. They are: Prozac, Zoloft, and Paxil. I am a fellow sufferer, and I'm on Paxil. My doctor just thinks that's the best one for me. And he must be right, because I'm out of my funk. I don't think you should quit Celexa cold turkey without calling your doctor's office and at least talking to the nurse. I do know that you can quit Celexa and move straight to one of those other three. Maybe you'll get lucky, and your doctor will call in one of those three to your pharmacy tomorrow! I hope so. Good luck! :)
Ask your doctor to switch you to prozac. It worked for me.
I hear ya! I gained 80 pounds the first year I was on Paxil. I'm off it now and have lost more than half. Of course, I'm older now, so I don't expect to be as slender as I used to be. These drugs change your entire body, so adding other drugs won't work. Sorry :-(

It happens. My ex-husband has taken several medications that have caused him to gain ALOT of weight. Check the fine print of the precautions, or you can read up on a site like WebMD. Also discuss this with you doctor. There are tons of different medications out there, chances are he can find something that wont affect you this way. Weight gain is never a good thing (unless you are Nicole Richie) so please take care of yourself.
Seek professional advise. Find a psychiatrist skilled (by reputation) in psychiatric meds. There are several alternatives to Celexa! Weight gain will not go away the longer you use the medication.
these all sound like side effects that others have experienced with this call your doc immediatly and let him/her know. He can switch you over to something else. Welbutrin is like this and some others sometimes you have to try several antidepressants before you find one that works for you. I had severe panic attacks with lexapro.
I am on Celexa and have been for awhile, and haven't gained any weight although antidepressants can do this. I wouldn't advise prozac I had one doctor who stated it should be pulled from the shelves and it should it causes severe aggravation. You will have to contact your doctor what is best for you. But don't starve yourself over it, than you will have another problem to contend with.
