I need more info on ADHD?
Question:
Answers:
Actually, there have been several studies that show early medication treatment of AD/HD can actually improve and repair the neurological areas of the brain that are affected by AD/HD and children who receive early medical treatment are less likely to require medications as adults.
One medication you may want to consider is Strattera, it works like the stimulants, however, it is not actually a stimulant and is much safer because it is non-habit forming. I was on this medication myself and found it very helpful. I have also worked with several children that have been effectively treated with this medication.

your son is confused because his brain isn't functioning prob lay putting your son on meds will him so u should do it you should try and do some activities with with to make him feel better good luck on it
I have ADHD and so does my 8 year old daughter she was diagnosed at 7. We have had her on meds since we were told about it and she is doing so much better. She is still a little hyper but not as bad. She used to scream all the time and now she doesn't.
Myself on the other had was told as a teenager I needed meds and refused them and when I hit adult hood and a lot of problems and 4 nervous break downs. I am on meds now and I can tell a BIG difference I wouldn't live a day without them.
My advice is this as a mother an a patient keep an eye out on his behavior if it worsens talk to doctor it could be the meds. Some meds will make you worse. NOT ALL meds will do that. Also make sure the doctor does blood test. Some meds require blood test. The doctor will tell you all about this if and when needed. I hope this helps you.'
Honestly, meds have changed my life and opened me p to apart I thought never existed. (My inteligence)
I would defiently say a least give Adderall or Concreta a try, you never know?
Since ADHD is a neuorlogical function, meds help slow down the nerotransmitters that are being recycled.(Neuros are what send message from the brain, which recycle more quickly with someone who has ADHD)
------------------------------...
For the record(yes i tried both)**
Adderall and Ritalin is a stimulant
Pro:
It helps regulate impusles and manage attention
Con:
It doesn't last too long so if he is really inattentive, this will not really help
Concerta is a stimulant too.*
Pro:But it last longer*Concreta seems to shrapen and manage attention unlike Adderall. Also can control impulses.
Con: You can get a little loss of appetite-not really big, but won't be as hungry
but everybody is different...

I take concerta and feel less rebellious, more focused, and a happier person. Meds haven't changed my personality just my focus.(some people fear personality change)
I wish my mother would of let me start on meds that early (she thought it was a mental thing and that I could make it go away through diets and expensive study skills<----no help.) because she didn't let me take them until I almost dropped out of high school and became so rebellious. Now I am a College student : )
Why not give him medicine? You wouldn't have a second thought if he was sick with cancer or something, so why not for this?
