Worth all the trouble?!!?

Question:
i want to know everyones opinions of their meds (anti anxiety, anti depressent ect)
i have a bad phobia of throwing up and im worried if i get on these meds i will get bad side effects and puke or get nausea and get worried im going to puke and ect.
Though if they work they could really help out alot.therapists and talking to dont do it for me at all and i figured maybe i should see my doc and talk to him about some meds.. what do you reckon?? how have meds helped you? do you think they are worth it? and did anyone experience nausea or vomitting??
thanks heaps!

Answers:
i have this phobia and have been keeping it a secret for a long time (out of shame) and it's nice to know I'm not alone. Anyway, I've been on lexapro and zoloft, and I stopped them both. they have both given me upsets, and zoloft did make me vomit before (it was because i decided to re-take it months after i quit - i was in a horrible, desperate mood that day - without any gradual increase and it was too much for me).

If you go on anti-depressants, it's likely your doc will have you on a very low initial dosage and slightly increase it with time. That way, if there are side-effects they won't be as bad. Let your doctor know about your phobia. She/he will probably make the dosage increase in even smaller increments. Telling him/her will help you manage your phobia anyway.

a lot of anti-anxiety meds are actually known to be anti-emetics anyway, so i wouldn't worry about those...
Well, you'll want to talk to a psychiatrist to get medication, not just your family doctor. I'm not sure if nausea/vomiting is usually a side effect of anti-depressants or not, but my sister was on Zoloft for a while and never had a problem. A psychiatrist should know how best to accommodate your problem.
My problem with my meds is making me go to the bathroom. I know most have the side effect of diarrhea. I have I.B.S. Irritable Bowl Syndrome and as I tell my doctors if the meds are going to give me the D's I will not take it. SO your not alone with your phobia here.

As to answer your question I didn't have any upset stomach with throwing up and I have taking almost every anit depressant there is on the market. Why so many? We are try to find one that will set well with my I.B.S. I hope this helps you. Good luck.'
The underlying problem with the phobia you have is the anxiety. You need to treat that first. A good med is BuSpar. It is for generalized anxiety, and it is non-habit forming like benzodiazepines can be (Valium, Ativan, etc.) Some over-the-counter meds that can help you with nausea AND anxiety are Benadryl and Bonine (meclizine, a motion sickness med), although they can make you sleepy.
