What medications will a doctor prescribe for stress?

Question:
Can they be taken for a short time or just when needed so i don't become addicted?

Answers:
Stress is not a mental disorder, illness or disease. If you have anxiety or insomnia or other problems because you don't handle stress well, you may need meds.

Benzodiazapines are drugs for anxiety taken as needed. This includes drugs such as xanax, valium, ativan, klonopin, etc. They are addictive, so be careful if you decide to take them.

The doctor may want you to try an anti-depressant also. Sometimes they can help with anxiety too. Popular AD's are lexapro, cymbalta, paxil, effexor, prozac, etc. Often depression is an underlying cause of stress and anxiety even if you don't feel sad.

Best wishes to you.
There are many meds for stress. Xanax is a popular one. All of them carry the potential for addiction. Talk to your doc.

Paxil is pretty low key. No strong side effects or addictions. It helps ease you, you don't get stressed as bad. My doctor prescribed me to go to yoga, and my insurance payed for it. cool huh.
