Lithium...Prozac...Depakote... all options to help with her rapid cycling of her moods..
Most individuals that suffer from bipolar have one goal. That goal is to live a life that is as normal as can be. To get through today without having any emotional problems, to make it through the big meeting at work without having people wonder what is wrong with you and to simply be able to enjoy your daughter’s graduation are all additional goals that you may have.

Think about this!
It may take your daughter several different medications to feel better. One of the medical conditions of bipolar is they do get very chatty and talk very fast and they do have highs and lows, and can even spend allot of money shopping sprees. It is sad she has no friends. Maybe she could join group therapy and meet some friends with bipolar. She will also need therapy along with her meds. Bipolar is a life long disease and even with meds she is going to have the effects you are mentioning, its a horrible disease I know my mom had it and yes they can become mean and sometimes very violent and want to fight. I find allot of people who have this disease are also very intelligent too. I wish you and your daughter the best. I wish more people would not be afraid of this disease and love the person for whom they are and accept it as diabetes is accepted, it always made me upset when my mom had a hard time with friends putting her down for it because they have big hearts. Good luck to you and your daughter. Hugs!!
Drug treatments for bipolar and other serious mood disorders are often a trial and error thing. Usually people will have to try several different meds, or combinations of meds, before they find what works best for them. The lucky ones respond to the first drug. Lamictal is an anticonvulsant. Anticonvulsants are usually much more helpful for rapid-cycling and mixed forms of bipolar disorder than traditional mood-stabilizers such as lithium. Hang in there and you and her should work closely with her doctor. If this med doesn't work then there are other ones she can try. Bipolar disorder is a very treatable illness.
