When do the side effects kick in when taking Effexor XR?
Question:
Answers:
2-4 weeks for Effexor to kick in.
DO NOT go off this medicine without tapering down first. I did (I ran out of meds and didnt go get a refill right away) and I puked my guts out (it was like I was coming off illegal drugs or something..its scared the hell out of me...Paxil will do this to you too). Weight gain really depends. Some people DO gain weight, some people DONT. Any anti-depressant will make you sleepy. It comes with the meds, you cant do much about that. It could be effecting you now, who knows, some people it affects really fast and some it affects a lot slower.
You will notice the affects get stronger once you are on the 75 mgs. Good luck! If it doesnt work for you..Try either Wellbutrin (not an SSRI) or Lexapro (very little side effects).
=o))
I had horrible side effects the very first day.
Some people don't get any side effects from taking these types of medicines. Be glad yours are mild to non-existent so far. Try not to concentrate so much on "waiting for the kick". Live your life and best of luck to you.
I've been taking Effexor (not XR) for over 10 years.
6 pills, 37.5 mg each, per day.
I never had the sleepiness. i lost about 30 pounds in the first 60 days - i just wasn't hungry, or even thirsty, taking it.
to me, the Effexor made me not hungry, so i lost weight, as opposed to the Effexor directly causing the weight loss.
A week -10 days they became untolerable I slept 16-20 hrs yes I gained wt too 1st 5 days not much that I noticed please go on line & read about this drug go to more than 1 site look up side effects for--- Of coarse Im off it now 2nd & 3rd ones weren't right for me either `all the best to you
I am an Efexxor expert as I have been on it for ever. Depending on your body...usually 7 to 14 days. Do not skip pills either, or it will be like starting all over again the regime. Also if on this drug you can get seizures if you have been on it awhile and then stop. I never had any side effects or snyone I know on this drug has either...even seizures. So just keep taking it as prescribed by your doctors and you will see the good out weighs the bad by far.even though I have never known anyone with BAD symptoms...the only bad symptom is if it works and you stop taking it. It is a miracle drug and if you are on it while and stop.you will notice a big difference in your mood. Good Luck..
You aren't going to experience many side effects from 37.5 mg.
When you get to 75 mg. you should be careful to take the medication at the same time every day. If you miss a dose you get an annoying feeling like a little electric shock in your head. (It is hard to describe, but you'll know it when it happens.)
I think it takes 6-8 weeks for your system to adjust to this stuff. If side effects like sleepiness or weight change are still a problem by then, let your doctor know. The Dr. may adjust your dose or have you try something else.
Hi- It does take several weeks for a new medication, like Effexor XR to adapt to ur body. Everybody's metabolism is different. I would say DO NOT GIVE UP ON IT. PLEASE contact ur Dr. who prescribed this medication to you re: the side effects. In the meantime, I have a few sites for you, that will hopefully be helpful in regards to ur question.
Take Care & Good Luck!
You can have acute side effects from taking Effexor which are head aches, loss of appetite and constipation/diarrhea. An elevation of mood does take between 2-4 weeks
