Can citolapram stop working?
Question:
yeaterday i've been self harming for the first time since i started in the meds.
Answers:
go back to your doctors.you should not be self harming! If anything it sounds like he needs to up your dose slightly, they only usually start you off on 10mg so you may have built up an immunity toward it,but get back to youre doctor and tell him everything. If your not honest your doctor cannot help you.Good luck.
What You Should Watch For While Taking Citalopram
Get regular checkups from your doctor while taking Citalopram. You can better monitor your progress this way (Citalopram may take 4 weeks or longer before you experience beneficial effects). DO NOT abruptly stop taking this drug!! Consult your doctor about how to safely stop your doses. Citalopram may affect your body for several days after you stop taking it. You may experience drowsiness or dizziness. Don't use any heavy machinery or operate any type of vehicle until you know how this medicine affects you. You may faint or become dizzy if you sit or stand too quickly. Do not consume alcohol while taking Citalopram. You may experience dry mouth, you can help this by drinking lots of water, sucking on hard candy, or chewing on sugarless gum. Let your doctor know if you are scheduled for surgery. (Also let the doctors know you are taking Citalopram if you become in need of unexpected surgery). If you experience coughs, allergies, or a cold, be sure to contact your physician for professional advice. Do not try to treat yourself for these symptoms. Some ingredients found in other medicines may affect the expected performance of Citalopram and may also increase side effects. IF YOU HAVE SUICIDAL THOUGHTS, CALL YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY!!
All of this type of tablet take time to work to their fullest extent. They can start working more or less immediately and may well take a dip before getting going again.
It is just as likely that they will not start working for you again. Talk to the doctor, he will either prescribe a higher dose (probably less likely) or try a different drug of the same type - they can often work differently for different people.
Please don't just give up. Let the doc try a few things on you - there is every chance that he can find something that will make you feel much better until you will finally be able to deal with your problems on your own. Just don't try to rush it.
It took you years to get into the condition you are in - it may take just as long to get out of it.
Much luck
im on 20 mg a day
as you should guessing by your screen name you shouldnt drink lol i drank to but as soon as i stopped i felt better would say though know normal doc woulld consider taking you of these tabs for atleast 6 months maybe you need a second opinium to what you really need good luck hope this helps
10mg is actually quite a low dose for Citalopram and it may be that you need to go up a bit as you can 'level off' on them, sort of get used to them - maybe you need to go 20 mg. I know people who are regularly on 80mg although of course that brings with it other problems such as withdrawal when you do want to come off. If you are self harming again you need to discuss this with your doctor and find a medicine and a doseage that suits you. In terms of how long you will be on them - it is dependant on how healthy you are feeling with them and shouldnt be something you should worry about until you feel more able to cope with things. Best of luck, please go and see your GP.
Hi you!
Right.. I am on this tablet right now, same dose!
Once a day! Will be taking it for about 6 months.
It takes a while before it starts working! My Doc said, I have to have a faith in it, before I see any benefits from it.
But let me tell you, this type of medicine doesn't work wonders. You have to be prepared for ups and downs..!
You must have some therapy as well! Cuz it's never down to a tablet ONLY but hard work on your thoughts and beliefs as well.
Generally I was told this is one of the most gentle medicines of the sort. Calm yourself down and keep taking it if prescribed..
BUT If it's really bad and you become restless and trully believe it's worst than ever, go and see your Doc, cuz it might be a case it's simply not suitable for you..
Good luck to you!
Hugs from me
i know someone who was on a low dose and had to have it increased cos it stopped working. if ur self harming u need to get yrself to doctors and tell them its not working.
