Depressed..?
Question:
I'm 14 years old..and people always come up asking me what's wrong and why I'm not like I used to be..
Is it something to do w/ puberty? I feel different then everyone else due to acne and what not as well.
I'm currently trying my best to keep my chin up..but I feel as if I should know why I'm sad or w/e. What are causes of depression? Why do I feel like this all the sudden?
Answers:
Hormones during puberty can cause your moods to be very unpredictable. If it gets really bad then consider seeing a therapist of some sort to talk to. This helps alot. The best and worst thing that my parents did for me when I was your age was to opt for no medication. This taught me how to cope with very stressful situations, but also made it extremely hard to ask for help. While I can cope in stressful situations the depression never went away, it just kept getting worse, and since its like I almost cant physically ask for help, I got into trouble and was forced to get help. Im in no way saying that you will be like this. I had a VERY traumatic childhood. I have been through things that you would only read in books, or see on talk shows. Having to deal with these things early on for a very prolonged amount of time is bound to have negative effects on someone for th rest of their lives.
Try counseling first. Try it until you are an adult and able to make your own decisions regarding meds. Find hobbies to kep yourself occupied and your mind busy. Play sports the exercise will be good for you. Get sunlight it will help alot with depression. Force yourself out to interact with people. It sounds weird but it will help you to develope social skills, and its also really hard to be depressed when you are around people who make you happy alot of the time.
There is probably just a chemical imbalance in your brain. I would talk to your doc about trying out antidepressants.
Get the book "feeling good". It is as effective as antidepressants and has none of the side-effects. This book is clinically proven and written by a medical doctor.
As for your acne, look for my aspirin wash preparation in previous questions.
It is probably linked to the your energy...Get on a better diet and work out more and that will help out a ton!
this happened to me when i was your age i was really depressed and had thoughts of suicide but eventually i got over it sorry i dont think that helps but w/e
It sounds like you're depressed. Talk to your doctor, try counseling and antidepressants. Be prepared for a long struggle, because it's not always quick and easy. You might have to try several different medications before you find one that works. But don't worry! You won't be on them forever!
I had depression when I was your age. I never figured out why I was so sad, and because I couldn't find a good reason for it, I waited way too long to ask for help. Good for you for starting to think about it now!
it could just be to do with hormonal changes and puberty, as you suggested. i don't recommend antidepressants though, i know a lot of people who have been on them and watched them get worse, rather than better.
i made a positive thoughts journal, in which i write anything that makes me happy. i list favourite foods, movies, happy memories, etc etc. cheesy but works a heap.
try and see a counsellor or psychiatrist. i live in australia and here those services are free but i'm not sure about where you live.
good luck, and hang in there.
